One of the decorated APT Main Event champions put a little beat of the heat on Liu Zhuo Xin. On a board 5♣ 6♣ 3♦ 3♥, Guo Dong shoved sending Liu tanking. Liu folded and Dong showed his A♣ K♥.
It was an all out preflop war that began with Ryota Kubo bringing it up to 2500. Terry Tang Tian Yuan three-bet to 6500; this was followed by Kazuhiko Yotsishuka with a four-bet to 25k. Kubo opted to drop out of the action but Tang went 180 degrees and shoved. Yotsishuka snap-called for his tournament life.
Tang A♥ A♠
Yotsishuka 10♦ 10♥
The board ran low and Yotsishuka was done for the day.
Considerably the most decorated international player in the field is Kahle Burns. He entered today in the middle of the pack just below average stack but has picked up a good one against Kalyan Chakravarathy to get in the mean.
Burns raised to 2700 preflop and got called by cutoff Chakravarathy and big blind Varun Gupta. On the flop 9♦ A♠ J♣, action was checked to Chakravarathy who bet 3200. Only Burns called and the turn came 10♠. Both players checked. On the 5♥ river, Burns led for 8700 and the call was made.
Burns won with A♥ 10♣ two pair. Chakravarathy held A♣ K♦ top pair.
Sparrow Cheung increased his large stack further with a bit of aggressive betting. Facing a raise of 3k by Tanaka Masatoshi, Cheung three-bet to 12k and got the call. On the flop J♥ 6♥ A♣. He led for 9k and won it.
The day’s entering chip leader Lee Kyung Min and Sparrow Cheung are both seated at table 2. We hung around to catch some action between the two but none so far. We did see Cheung raise on Lee’s big blind but Lee didn’t defend it. We’ll keep track of how the leaders progress today and check on the decorated APT Main Event champions that are in the field as well.
Day 2 has begun with 54 players in the field. The tournament director has announced that they will try to reach the Final 8 and finish one day earlier. While the money round is still way’s away, the event will pay out 10 places. With the prize pool up on the screens, the lowest payout stands at HKD 72,200 and the highest at HKD 459,400.
Within the first 10 minutes of action here, two players have been eliminated and both at table 7. We missed how Bobby Zhang fell but we were right there when Alex Lee Hin Hwaa ran into a cooler against Stephen Nathan. Action began with Michael Soyza raising to 2500, Lee three-betting to 9500, Nathan bumped it up to 24k, Soyza got out of the way, Lee shoved, and a quick call by Nathan. Lee with K-K, Nathan with A-A. The board bricked. Nathan up to around 160k.
