We have completed the 8 scheduled rounds for Day 2 with 12 players bagging up chips. If you’ve been following the updates then you know that Malaysia’s Victor Chong went on a spree, chopping heads late in the game to drive his stack to the million mark. He bagged up 992,000 in chips.
The money round was not reached tonight which means we will see two players getting the boot tomorrow without any pay. Final Day action resumes at 1pm. Stand by for the leader’s story and the Day 2 recap.
Zarvan Tumboli moved all in with his last 88k and Michael Soyza called.
Tumboli 7-7
Soyza 9-9
The board bricked out and we are down to 12 players.
Terry Tang Tian Yuan and Kai Paulsen stared down a board 3♦ 2♥ 6♣ 4♠ and roughly around 200k in the middle. Tang shoved and after a few minutes, Paulsen folded. The players asked for Tang to show but he smiled and mucked his hand while scooping up the meaty pot. He is now over 400k.
Victor Chong continues to dominate the felt. Not long after booting out two players, he claimed a huge pot against Guo Dong. We caught the action at the flop 4♦ 9♦ 10♣, Chong checked, Dong bet 11k, Chong raised to 40k, and Dong flat-called. On the 2♠ turn, Chong led for 65k and Dong called. On fifth street 8♣, Chong announced all in with his enormous artillery. It took nearly five minutes for Dong to decide if he should risk his tournament life. He opted to fold and Chong shipped the pot. He is now just over 1M in chips.
The new round has just begun and Victor Chong quickly booted out two players. The first take down was one of our past APT Main Event champions, Albert Paik. Alecz Chan raised to 15k, Paik three-bet to 44k, Chong four-bet to 106k, and Chan folded. Action back to Paik, he moved all in and Chong called.
Chong A♣ K♣
Paik J♥ J♦
The board ran 5♦ 8♦ K♠ 7♠ 10♣ and with Chong spiking the higher pair, he shipped it to reach 700k.
But he wasn’t done yet.
A few of hands after, Chan Chi Kit was sent packing. The preflop war led to a showdown with Chan A♥ K♥ and Chong A♠ A♦. The board offered no gems for Chan and just like that, another bites the dust.
By our gauge, Chong is up to 850k.
Zarvan Tumboli was the ATM machine in the these back-to-back hands. On the first one, he doubled up Tetsuya Tsuchikawa which brought his stack down to 190k. On a board of 6♠ Q♣ 5♠ 7♥ 8♠ with heavy bets on the turn, Tsuchikawa shoved on the river and Tumboli with the quick call. Tsuchikawa 5♦ 5♥ set over Tumboli’s 6♣ 7♣.
The following hand was up against Kahle Burns. On a flop of 5♥ A♠ K♠ and a raised pot preflop, Tumboli bet 10k and Burns called. On the 2♠ turn, Tumboli checked, Burns bet 34k, Tumboli check-raised to 105k, and Burns matched it up. On the K♦ river, Tumboli checked, Burns announced all in, and Tumboli quickly surrendered his hand.
Tumboli down to 90k, Burns climbed to 670k.
Several hands after Varun Gupta railed Yuichi Sumida, he was taken out of the running by Kahle Burns. Gupta had A-Q that ran right into Burns’s A-A. That leaves us with two decorated APT Main Event champions still in the running. We are now down to 15 players.
Varun Gupta shipped in all of Yuichi Sumida’s chips with A-K staying well ahead of Sumida’s A-3. Gupta sits with around 170k.
Victor Chong landed an enormous pot up against our high roller champion Yunsheng Sun. The hand got underway with a raise to 12k by Chan Chi Kit. Button player Sun called, then bb Chong raised to 50k. Action back to Chan produced a fold but Sun opted to move all in with his very healthy stack well over 200k. Chong called with slightly more.
Sun 7♠ 7♥
Chong A♥ K♣
The board ran 4♣ Q♣ 10♣ 2♣ 9♥ for a dominating flush to Chong and just like that, he banked a massive pot and climbed to 500k.
