Feng Zhao with A♣ J♠ called an opponent’s shove of around 50,000 with the player holding Q♥ Q♦.
The opponent’s lead got stretched when the flop Q♥ 10♦ 7♣ landed. However, the turn 8♥ gave Zhao new outs and was now on a gut-shot straight draw.
The river 9♠ gave him that straight and last year’s APT Philippines Main Event has now around 200,000 primed for another money finish.
Day 1A chip leader Kenneth Khoo has failed to keep up with the current leaders for Day 2 but still has around 130,000 to work with– still better than his starting stack of 113K for today.
Here’s the hand where his stack suffered a serious hit:
The dealer has already turned 2♥ 3♥ 4♥ 9♦ with the pot at around 50,000. Sebastian Benz shoved with over 40,000 and Khoo called.
The river A♦ landed failing to give Khoo the flush or king and Benz doubled-up to around 140,000.
A few hands after he doubled up to 60,000, Ian Brion was in an all-in situation again this time against two players and involving an even better pot! Brion’s pre-flop showdown against Patrick Draper and another opponent from the button.
Draper: J♠ J♣
Brion: A♠ A♥
Button Player: A♦ K♥
Dealer tabled 2♥ Q♣ 7♦ 6♠ Q♦ and gave Brion a near triple-up to 175,000!
Draper won the side pot over the busted out player and he still has around 65,000.
Pre-flop all-in involving short-stacked Ian Brion.
Brion: Q♣ Q♠
Tran: 10♣ 10♠
Dealer boarded 2♠ K♠ 5♣ 3♣ 8♥ and Brion’s ladies holds the fort for the Filipino who now has over 60,000.
Masato Yokosawa opened to 5,000 and got re-popped to 10,000. Yokosawa called to bring the flop 5♥ 6♣ K♣.
Yokosawa check-folded on Steicke’s 10,000 bet and Steicke now has around 200,000.
Pre-flop, Ryan Hong opened for 4,000 and saw Sammy Bolung re-pop to 11,500. Hong shoved and got a call from Bolung!
Hong: 10♥ 10♠
Bolung: A♠ K♥
Bolung needed an ace or king to stay in this main event. He didn’t get those outs on the flop Q♥ 10♣ 5♦ and also none on the turn 2♥ and river 6♣ to bust out of the main event.
Hong continues his good run in this main event and is now over the 200K-mark.
Jimmy Johan now at 120,000.
On a board of 5♥ 5♦ 3♥, Marcuss Liow bet 10,000 and was called by Jimmy Johan and Andrew Nguyen. On the turn 8♠ it was Johan who bet first for 22,000– too big for both Liow and Nguyen, both of whom folded.
With less than 10,000-stack, Sarah Bilney of Australia decided it was time to double-up or go home.
Ms. Sarah shoves with A♦ J♠ and was up against an opponent’s 9♠ 9♣.
Needing an overcard, the dealer flopped 4♠ 2♠ 9♠ changing the complexion of the hand. This time around he needed a spade to survive; it didn’t come on the turn 5♥ and river J♣ and one of the the last few ladies in the main event busts out.
With the dealer already J♠ Q♣ 10♣ 7♠, Mark Rivera fired a huge 20,000 bet in a pot that amounted to about 30,000. Rivera’s opponent tanked and tanked… Before deciding to fold. Mark Rivera has now around 160,000.
