Who will conquer the APT Philippines II Main Event? Race to the crown begins at 1:30pm

PASAY CITY, Philippines – After five days of exciting poker action, the APT Philippines II Main Event is down to the Final 8! At some point today, the newest champion will be crowned at partner venue Newport World Resorts. You can catch the action via the Live Updates or you can also watch the live stream (30-minute delay) on APT YouTube,  APT Twitch, and APT FB page. Cards in the air at 1:30pm.

The Main Event drew 497 entries for a prize pool of Php 24,104,500 (~US$ 434,225). This was the third largest APT Philippines turnout for this event in history. At Day 3, portions of the pot were claimed with the largest cuts to be awarded today. When the Final 8 return, they are each guaranteed Php 630,800 (~US$ 11,100), however it is the enormous top prize of Php 5,046,00 (~US$ 88,800) that each one will seek to win. The eventual champion will also take home the APT Golden Lion Main Event trophy and APT champion’s ring.

Final 8 players 

Sofia Lovgren Fullmer – Sweden – 3,120,000 (104 BB)

Carrying in a commanding lead into the final day is the lone lady in the lineup, Sweden’s Sofia Lovgren Fullmer with 3,120,,000 in chips. She was the only player to bag 100+ BB. Throughout Day 3, Fullmer led the field for a majority of the stage. This is her second APT Main Event final table appearance. Back in 2019, she finished 5th in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. 

Jung Ho Young – Korea – 2,475,000 (82 BB)

Korean player Jung Ho Young may not have long list of tournament cashes in his portfolio but has already picked up a few cashes in the Philippines last May. Coming in a strong second rank with 2,475,000 in chips, no matter where Young lands, he will pocket his largest ever live tournament poker payout. 

David Erquiaga – Philippines – 1,835,000 (61 BB)

Philippine pro David Erquiaga has been running red hot since his 2nd place finish at the Poker Dream Malaysia Main Event which he followed up with a first-ever major victory at the WPT Prime Cambodia Main Event. He is ranked 2nd in the 2022 GPI National rank. Entering the Final 8, Erquiaga is running 3rd in chips with 1,835,000. This is his first APT Main Event final table however he did reach the final table of APT Championships twice, taking 2nd place and 8th place. 

Hwany Lee – Korea – 1,680,00 (56 BB)

The second Korean player in the lineup is Hwany Lee who entered the Main Event in Day 2. He has consistently been at the top of the counts and despite a few scares in Day 3, he was able to claw back up to 4th rank with 1,680,000 in chips. Most of Lee’s achievements are on home soil. In April, he won the Masters League in Gyeonggi-Do for his largest-ever cash. 

Hernan Villa – Philippines – 1,130.,000 (37 BB)

Local player Hernan Villa secured his first ever APT Main Event final table with a bag of chips amounting to 1,130,000. In Day 3, he delivered the bubble by railing Samuel Deering. No matter where Villa finishes, he will have earned a career high score. 

Jacques Le Guennec – France – 735,000 (24 BB)

The lone Frenchman in the round is Jacques Le Guennec with 735,000 in chips. He is a WPT title holder with a victory in Marrakech, Morocco in 2010. This is his first ever APT appearance and impressively navigated his way into the final table. 

Bonifacio Mondalo – Philippines – 555,000 (18 BB)

Local player Bonifacio Mondalo is on his first ever APT Main Event final table and will enter ranked 7th with 555,000 in chips. Mondalo is having a fairly good run this year with a victory at a local tournament Metro Summer Event. In July, he finished 6th at the PS Manila Super Series Main Event. If he places 7th or better here, he will have secured his largest career payout. 

Marc Rivera – Philippines – 480,000 (16 BB)

Bringing up the rear is top ranked Hendon Mob Philippines All Time Money List, Marc Rivera, with 480,000. Known as an avid cash player and poker coach, Rivera hit the headlines when he won the 2018 APPT National which awarded him a seat to the PCA PokerStars Players Championship. He proceeded to finish 3rd in that event for an all time country high earning of over US$ 2M. This is Rivera’s first APT Main Event final table. He eliminated Soufiane Bakas in 9th place to secure his seat to today’s defining stage.
