Warming-Up: Huang, Tsuchikawa Win First Two Side Events in APT Philippines 2014 Opening Day

A pair of side events and two satellite tournaments opened the APT Philippines 2014 at the Resorts World Manila on Wednesday. A respectable field for all events kicked things off for the eight-day poker festivities set from April 30 to May 7.

Among the luminaries who took the felt on opening day are Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, Tatsuya Ikeda and Iori Yogo; the Philippines’ Ian Marcos, Martin Corpuz, Mike Takayama, Richard Marquez and Euryd Rivera. Also present were Ben Abrahams (Thailand), Alistair Duff (Australia), Kristian Faering (Denmark), Bryan Huang (Singapore) and SJ Kim (South Korea) among many other popular pros in the Asian scene.

It was Huang who beat the field of 86 entries in the NLHE Event #1 which produced a $20,660 prize pool after re-buys and add-ons. The Singaporean, who outplayed Rivera in the heads-up round, won the first side event title of this APT stop for $4,950 and all-important APT points for the APT Player of the Year race.

In the same side event, APT Chief Executive Officer Jeff Mann finished in 5th place for a nice win of $410, an amount he donated in full to the same charity organization.
