Tuesday Side Event Wrap: 2-day NLH hits Final 8, 3 High-Rollers trophies handed out

PASAY CITY, Philippines – With the dust just starting to settle from the climax of the Main Event, the side events kept the activity pitch at a high as (Event #24) the 2-day No Limit Hold’Em (NLH) played down to its Final 8 and three more High-Rollers champions were crowned at the midway mark of competition of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2022 Philippines at the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts here.

The NLH Final 8 will be on the broadcast menu for the Livestream at 1:30PM (UCT+8) which can be watched on the APT YouTube and Twitch channels.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Huen Kayin outlasted a strong field of 43 entries to come away with the victory in the hotly contested (Event #20) 2-day PhP100,000 (US$1,745) High-Rollers after overcoming the charge of local bet Edgar Asehan in the Heads-Up duel.

It was Huen’s first trophy in the APT and along it he claimed the champion’s purse of PhP1,308,000 (US$22,830) while Asehan had to settle for the PhP872,500 (US$15,229).

Third place went to Ori Haim Elul of Israel for PhP606.600 (US$10,586).

In (Event #25) the PhP70,000 (US$1,222) Single-Day High-Rollers, it was Australia’s Jayden Zalac hoisting the trophy after a grueling battle against Kazuhiro Shirasawa of Japan to attain his first title outside of his native land and only his second APT cash for PhP631,000 (US$11,012) while his Heads-Up opponent collected PhP338,500 (US$5,907).

Third place went to American Ryan White for PhP196,700 (US$3,432).

In the final tiff of the day (that carried on to the early morning), 2018 APT Philippines Championships II Main Event titlist Lester Edoc won his 13th APT crown in (Event #26) the High-Rollers 6-Max Hyper Turbo and bested a field of 21 entries.

Edoc, a native of Baguio City, also pocketed the PhP398,600 (US$6,955) top prize while Japan’s Jumpei Masatoshi got second for PhP213,800 (US$3,732)

Player of the Series (POS) contender Katsuhiro Kawai of Japan garnered another ITM finish, this time for PhP124,200 (US$2,168) to remain within striking distance of leader Mike Takayama, Main Event runner-up Christopher Mateo and Main Event champion Moses Saquing.

The APT Championships Event kicks off later (November 23rd) with Day 1A unfolding at 1:00PM with three “Turbo” events accompany it.
