Side events latest winners: Azusa Maeda wins two! Ian Modder, Joo Hyun Park, & Mark Reyes,

Another batch of Golden Lion trophies have left the awards table here at the inaugural APT Taiwan 2019 at Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association – CTP Club. Japan’s Azusa Maeda snatched up two of them, Ian Modder, Joo Hyun Park, and Mark Reyes claimed one each. Below are the latest victors and a brief overview of the event:

Azusa Maeda takes down two events

Japan’s Azusa Maeda is on fire at the series. Maeda became the first player to win two side events. His first triumph was at Event #7: No Limit Hold’em #1 where 157 runners put up the TWD 9,900 buy-in. This generated a healthy pot of TWD 1,370,600 with 27 shaving a portion. It was a two-day event. The lion’s share TWD 316,300 went to Maeda. Maeda is an APT regular, though he has been absent for a couple of years, this was his 5th career APT side event trophy. Maeda’s next victory was at Event #10: Pot Limit Omaha Hi. That event concluded very late in the evening. There were 99 signups at TWD 9,900 each. The TWD 864,300 prize pool was divvied up among the top 17 places. Maeda defeated Yeung Lok Kin at heads up to ship the TWD 223,800 first prize and his second APT Golden Lion trophy. With these two wins, he is now one of the front runners of the APT Player of the Series race. Ian Modder wins the High Rollers #1
 
Also finishing up past the midnight hour was Event #8: High Rollers #1. This was a two-day event. 89 runners ponied up the TWD 86,000 buy-in for a very juicy prize pool of TWD 6,906,400 (~USD 224,400). Only 15 players earned a piece of it. The title came down to a heated battle between Ian Modder and Marc Rivera.
 
 
In the end, it was Modder who prevailed. You can watch the final table action in APT Twitch. Modder shipped the TWD 1,845,700 first prize and his first APT Golden Lion.

Mark Reyes wins the Short Deck (Shot Clock)
 
There were two Short Deck events offered at the series, both of them concluded on the same day. The first one was a two-day event with a shot clock. 63 runners ponied up for that at TWD 9,900 each for a pot of TWD 550,000. 11 players earned a cut.
 
Dominating the final table was Filipino Mark Reyes. Reyes faced off against China’s Xiaoshen Zheng for the title. Zheng put up a strong fight but ultimately, he still could not dent Reyes’s massive fortress.  Reyes won his first-ever APT Golden Lion trophy and his first-ever live tournament event. He earned TWD 158,800 for his victory.

Joo Hyun Park wins the Short deck High Rollers (Single Day)
 
The other Short Deck was for the heavy hitters with buy-in at TWD 54,000. There were 22 runners for this event for a prize pool of TWD 1,067,000. Joo Hyun Park stole the win crushing Graeme Siow‘s pocket kings at heads up with pocket queens turned set. He won the TWD 521,900 first prize.
