Japan’s Shunpoker clinches maiden title at the High Rollers
This being his first ever APT, Japan’s Shunpoker has clearly been the most colorful and animated player at the series. At one point during the Championships Event, he thrilled everyone by dressing up as the famous character Naruto. In terms of performance, Shunpoker reached the Main Event final table, finishing in a superb 4th place for a Php 1,340,300 payout.
Today, Shunpoker took on the High Rollers event, coughing up the Php 107,500 buy in alongside 7 others. For the title, he faced off against Filipino heavyweight poker pro Mike Takayama who is running very hot at the series. Takayama is leading the APT Player of the Series race with 7 cashes of which one was a victory at the earlier High Rollers event.
However, Takayama would not make it two wins with Shunpoker putting on the brakes. Big stacked Shunpoker grinded down the short stacked Takayama and shipped it after three all in clashes. The first one Shunpoker had pocket Nines, Takayama K-6 that paired the king to survive. On the next all in clash, it was a chopped pot, then on the third, it was the end for the local pro with Q♠ 7♣ dominating 8♠ 4♣ throughout. For Takayama, he widened his lead in the POS race with an astounding 8 cashes.

Richard “hotsauce” Marquez wins the two-day NL Hold’em
The two-day No Limit Hold’em attracted 63 to the felt for a healthy prize pool of Php 1,222,200 (~US$ 23,273). You can relive the final 8 action via APT YouTube and APT Twitch. Taking it down was APT regular Richard “hotsauce” Marquez after defeating APT decorated champion Manish Lakhotia at heads up.
Both players were deep with Lahotia ahead 71 BB to Marquez’s 55 BB. It didn’t take long for Marquez to overtake then progressively grinded down Lakhotia. Throughout the 50-minute bout, Lakhotia managed to tighten the gap but never regained the advantage. One hand saw Lakhotia lose a chunk on a failed bluff. He triple barreled with 7♠ 4♥ against Marquez’s Q♣ 9♦ on a board 2♣ 3♣ Q♦ 5♥ K♣. The final hand, Lakhotia shoved K♥ 3♥, Marquez ahead with J♣ J♦, the board 3♣ 6♠ 5♦ 10♣ 6♣. This was Marquez’s career sixth APT side event win and third cash of the ongoing series.
