Race for the Main Event Title, Final 8 today! Byun wins MSW Deep Stack Turbo

This is it! We are back at the Asian Poker Tour Experience Manila 2016 for the final day of the Main Event at the APT Poker Room located in the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino. Out of 127 total entries, we are down to the Final 8 players, each of them vying for the first place cash prize of P1,574,000, the APT Main Event Championship Trophy, and the APT Championship Ring. The Final 8 consists of two previous APT Main Event champions, two players who have gotten very close to the title, and four new faces at an APT Main Event final table felt.

APT Experience Manila Main Event Final 8

Entering the day with the largest stack is Canada’s Linh Tran with 548k chips. Tran is a previous APT Main Event champion having won his first title at the APT Asian Series Cambodia last year. Right at Tran’s heels is a new face at the APT Main Event Final 8, Korea’s Gyeong Byeong Lee coming in with 542k chips. Lee held an overwhelming chip lead for most Day 3 until Tran railed two players on the last hand to overtake him. Coming in third in chips is Filipino player Chris Mateo with 442k chips. Mateo may be a well-known player in the APT circuit however this will be his first time at the Final 8 of the Main Event. Mateo is one of the most fearless players at the final table, engaging in many pots with a wide range of hands. Next in the chip rung is UK’s Gabriel Carter, another newbie at the APT Main Event final table. He enters with 325k chips.

Heading up the latter part of the chip count is Japan’s Tomoyasu Arai with 213k chips. This is will be Arai’s first time at the APT Main Event Final 8 roundup. Two-time APT Main Event champion, Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo is next in line with 179k chips. Jeon is one of the most seasoned players at the table and is looking for a back-to-back win after capturing his second Main Event title last month at the APT Philippines 2016. The last two final table seats go to Korea’s Jae Chul Chang and Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon. Both of these players have had experience at an APT Main Event final table with Chang ending in a runner up spot back in 2014 at the APT Asian Series Cambodia and Falcon finishing third at the APT Cebu 2016 back in February. Chang enters the Final 8 with 149k chips and Falcon with 131k chips.

Side Event Schedule and Results

MSW Deep Stack Turbo Champion, Choul Seung Byun

There were two side events on the floor yesterday, the Monster Stack and the MSW Deep Stack Turbo. At the MSW Deep Stack Turbo, a total of 61 entries for a prize pool of P295,800. With nine players seeing a payout, players JC Sayo, Anthony Gabitan, and Russia’s Svyatoslav Dvornikov made it in the money, but it was Korea’s Choul Seung Byun who earned the P81,900 first place cash prize after defeating USA’s Greenberg Ofer at the heads up round.

The Monster Stack event turned up 49 entries, each shelling out the P27,500 entry fee for a prize pool of P1,188,200. This was a scheduled two-day event with 10 players remaining at the end of 17 rounds. The man with the largest stack coming into today is Japan’s Junya Nagano with 303,000 chips. Nagano will be joined by notable players such as Japan’s Iori yogo,  Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, Korea’s SJ Kim, and Lee Jong Yeol. Monster Stack resumes at 2pm today.

There will also be three side events on deck today, the Ante Only event at 1pm with a buy-in of P16,500, the High Rollers (Day 1) at 3pm with a buy-in of P108,000, and the Super Deep Stack Turbo event at 5pm with a buy-in fee of P11,000.
