Marc Rivera leads the 70 survivors of Main Event Day 2

Main Event Day 2 of APT Philippines 2019 rocked the house with 223 players returning to the races at Resorts World Manila. With registration still open for one level, it drew another 74 runners. This brought on a combined 503 total entries which was more than enough to set a new APT series record for the country. To match that fantastic turnout was of course the jaw-dropping prize pool of P24,395,500 (~USD 468,400). For the eventual winner, a huge P5,085,400 (~USD 97,000) awaits.

Prize pool and payouts

After the scheduled eight rounds of play, only 70 survived and the money of 51 places wasn’t reached. Finding his way to the top of the chip rung was local superstar Marc Rivera. Many recognize Rivera for his 3rd place finish at the PSPC event in the Bahamas in January. He currently leads the Philippine All Time Money List compiled by The Hendon Mob.

Rivera was one of the Main Event’s late entries. From the moment he sat down, it was sky high. Halfway through the day, he was one of the chip leaders. As the field downsized, he continued to grind successfully to close up top with 438,000. To give you an idea of how large it is, that’s 112x Day 3’s opening big blind.

Bagging up the second largest stack was another Filipino player, Ivan Tabucal with 414,000. Tabucal shipped a big pot without a showdown against Tamon Nakamura and Robin Gorres to skyrocket into lead position in Level 13. Hand history.

Rivera and Tabucal were the only two players to end the day over 400k. To round out the top five were Korea’s Jung Seung Mook (394,500), Filipino Christopher Mateo (391,000), and Gerardo Lubas III (380,000).
