Once again, closing as chip leader was Vietnamese high roller Dao Minh Phu with a commanding stack. Phu bagged up a monstrous 4,585,000 in chips which was equivalent to 183 BB. This was well over a third of the chips in play.

Also surviving the grueling race were four other players flying the Vietnamese flag: Nguyen Vu Cuong, Dang Thanh Luong, Nguyen Doan Trung Hieu, and Nguyen Quang Huy. The remaining three, India’s Ankit Jajodia, Norway’s Tommy Nguyen, and Filipino Vamerdino Magsakay were the lone representatives for their home country. All of the players have yet to win an APT major title. Out of the Final 8, Dao Minh Phu, Nguyen Quang Huy, and Vamerdino Magsakay have won at least one APT side event. Most recent was Phu who shipped the Superstar Challenge. For Magsakay and Huy, this is their second APT Main Event final table.

Main Event Day 3 recap
The Main Event drew a thunderous 487 entries for a prize pool of VN₫ 9,447,800,000. 57 players returned for Day 3 with the money just 8 spots away. After three hours of play, the bubble burst on Minh Nguyen who fell to Dinh Quang Huy. Nguyen was down to 3 BB when he shoved with 10♥ 10♠, Huy called with A♠ 7♥, the board ran Q♦ K♣ 2♠ 7♠ 7♣.
Following the bust, it took another six hours before the Final 8 was established. Along the way, among the first ones to cash was Day 1B chip leader Le Minh Thuc aka Lee Macau who fell to Filipino player Vamerdino Magsakay in 45th place. Magsakay also eliminated Super Deep Stack Turbo champion Jude Kumar when he hero-called the shove on a turn board 3♠ 4♥ 2♦ 4♦ and won it with A-K over A-J.
Further up the rung in 33rd place was APT Phu Quoc Main Event champion Hue Dang who fell on a nasty bad beat when Luong Van Quang spiked a two-outer on the river. During the final three tables, Dao Minh Phu bobbed in and out of top rank, taking turns with Ankit Jajodia, Pham Duy Anh, and Nguyen Quang Huy. At two tables, the remaining APT major champions, Ngoc Anh Cao (16th), Akshay Nasa (14th), Nguyen Van Sang (13th), and Huu Dung Nguyen (11th) all fell in near succession. This ensured that a first time winner would eventually take the crown. After ailing short stacked Do Huu Phuong was booted in 10th place, the final nine players compressed to one table.
With only one bust needed to end the day, action slowed down. Norway’s Tommy Nguyen took advantage and was seen entering numerous pots until a big hand came down between Phu and Magsakay. The crucial hand resulted in Phu skyrocketing to over 4 Million in chips and Magsakay plunging to below 10 BB. Magsakay recovered some of the chips on a double up through Jajodia. The heat ended with Phu 2♦ 2♥ holding firm against Nguyen Duy Thuc‘s K♣ Q♠ that missed the board.
