Main Event Day 1C influx begins, Single-Day NLH underway

PASAY CITY, Philippines – There are only two scheduled events today in Day 5 of the competition in the Asian Poker Tour (APT) 2022 Philippines but the penultimate day of qualification to the next phase of the PhP15M (US$264,105.00) Main Event is expected to draw its biggest set of participants at the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts here.

With already 100 runners through to Day 2, Day 1C is the last full day for aspirants to gain entry with Day 2 having its first two levels still open for registration. The number of entries from Day 1A (104) and Day 1B (102) could pale in comparison to the wave of those taking advantage of the weekend to move one step closer to poker immortality.

Among the early notables that have descended upon this venue are 21-time APT champion Iori Yogo of Japan, sixteen-time APT winner Kai Danilo Paulsen of Norway and the “Malaysian Sensation”, international tournament veteran Victor Chong.

Iori Yogo (JPN) has collected 21 APT titles

Among the locals, 2016 APT Main Event titlist Alexis Lim is in the mix along with 2015 APT Poker Finale Main Event champion Joven “Oven Toaster” Huerto, recently crowned Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) king Don “Pusang Gala” Carmona and Czar Ian Marcos, a 2-time APT side event winner.

It is interesting to note that the APT Main Event offers “Bubble Protection” wherein players who bust on the Bubble get a free entry to any APT Main Event provided they register before the start of their Day 1 and are present on the first deal of that session.

This will come in handy for someone like William Kang of England who had recently bubbled in not one, but two recent international Main Events. He is also seeing now in Day 1C.

Meanwhile, the lone side event of the day (Event #8), the Single-Day NLH, is nearing the 100-entry mark as there still will be one final Main Event satellite to be played out later in the day at 6:00PM (UCT+8).
