Main Event Day 1B ends with 89 through to Day 2, S-DST and HR champion crowned

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – 89 players moved on to Day 2 of the APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2022 Main Event joining the 109 who advanced from Day 1A in the first flight of Day 2 on Sunday (14th August) at the Saigon Poker Club here.

Amit Kaushik of India emerged as the Day 1B chip-leader and fourth overall heading into the penultimate day of competition in this VND6B (US$258,000.00) guaranteed event. Day 1C happens tomorrow at 1:00PM (UCT+7).
Meanwhile, the host nation scored another victory as Mai Bien soared back against 3-1 chip-leader Lee Jun Woo Korea to snare the VND224,320,000.00 (US$9,646.00) top prize and the win in Event #7 – the Super Deep Stack Turbo (S-DST).

The final hand happened when Mai called a pre-flop raise by Lee. The flop came JhJd9s. Both checked. The turn card was the Ts. Mai led out and Lee raised. Mai deliberated but called. The river produced the Td. Mai checked and Lee shoved. After a long thought process, Mai called. Lee showed a busted Straight draw with Qh3c while Mai showed KsTc—tens full of jacks and later said he didn’t call immediately because he took the time to eliminate the J from Lee’s range. His gut instinct was right and now he wins the fourth trophy for Vietnam in these proceedings. He bested a field of 49 entries.

Lee pocketed VND149,550,000.00 (US$6,431.00) for his runner-up placing. Ang Jek Cheng of Singapore finished in third.

Later on, in Event #8 (the second Single-Day High-Rollers) Hong Kong’s Ho Chi Chung used every ounce of skill to upend yesterday’s Single-Day High-Roller champion Lee Seongmin of Korea.

Ho sealed the win when he induced Lee to call him on a river shove with just King high—owing to the table image he allegedly built. On a board of Qh6d5s 3s 9c, Ho went over the top and Lee never believed him, calling with KdTh. Ho tabled 5d5h—hitting a set on the flop.

The win gave Ho VND477,470,000.00 (US$20,531.00) while Lee added VND318,320,000.00 (US$13,688.00) to his total earnings here and has amassed VND588,590,000.00 (US$25,309.00) over a mere two days of work.
Vietnam’s Tran Hong Chuong got VND221,300,000.00 (US$9,946.00) for landing in third.
