Starting promptly at 4pm today, the Asian Poker Tour Philippines 2016 II Main Event takes the spotlight at Resorts World Manila in Newport City, Philippines. Today marks the first of two starting days of the Main Event with Day 1b scheduled for tomorrow at 1pm.
Due to players demand, this festival’s Main Event will see the return of the deep structure that was tried and tested back in April 2016. Players begin with a 50,000 starting stack, which is 250 times the opening big blind, with rounds increase every hour. Buy-in is US$2,200 with unlimited re-entries allowed before round 7. The Main Event will run for eight levels today.
At the start of the year, the APT introduced a couple of new incentives to spice up everyone’s experience at the Main Event. The first big perk was the APT Main Event Bubble Protection because let’s face it, no one likes to bubble, especially not at the Main Event. With Bubble Protection, the player who happens to finish in this unfortunate position will be rewarded with a generous consolation prize, a free seat to the next APT Main Event of the same value. In order to qualify for Bubble Protection, here are a few simple steps you must complete:
- Pre-register
- Draw for your seat before starting time
- Have your chips put into play on the first deal of round number 1
In regards to the mechanics, players who qualify for Bubble Protection will maintain that status on a same day re-entry. Players wanting Bubble Protection on a next day re-entry will have to repeat the steps to qualify.
Another incentive was the awarding of an APT Championship Ring to every APT Main Event winner this year onwards. The first player to score one of these gorgeous silver bands was Thailand’s Thong Botho back in January 2016. Since then, five more have been awarded with Japan’s Hisashi Ogi claiming the latest one in Cambodia last month.

For players itching to play a game earlier, the Open Face Chinese Pineapple Shootout 36 Max will be up and running at 1pm. Buy-in is US$330. We will also be having a Last Chance Main Event Mega Satellite at 6pm. At yesterday’s satellite, six APT Main Event seats were awarded.
