Day 3 ended with Norbert Koh as the chip leader with 382,000 chips. Congratulations to all the players who will be returning for the final table of 9. See you all tomorrow!
Choi Young Su made it to the final table of the day but could not extend his run any further as Hideki Takafuji eliminated him in 10th place. All in action took place pre flop with both players engaging in a raise war before getting it in the middle. At the showdown, Takafuji had 8♠ 8♦ and Su had A♣ Q♥. With the board running 10♦ 7♣ 6♦ 7♦ J♠, Takafuji’s pair held up and Su busted out in 10th place.
Su collects $3,000 for his finish at the APT Vietnam Main Event.
Norbert Koh has just shaved off some of Zhang’s chips with a huge double up. During the hand, Koh raised to 12000 pre flop ad was called by Zhang on the big blind. At the flop of 3♣ 5♦ 4♥, Zhang checked to Koh who bet 15000 and was called by Zhang. On the turn, an A♠ graced the board and Zhang checked again. Koh bet 25000, then Zhang moved all in. Koh was very glad for the call because he tabled a straight with his 6♦ 7♦ while Zhang only had top pair with A♣ 9♣. With the river of K♥, Koh scooped the massive pot and became the chip leader with around 365000 chips.
Sitting with their towering stacks, Sunny Zhang and Jereld Sam tangled in a pot that started off with a raise to 13000 by Zhang and called by Sam. At the flop of Q♠ 3♥ 4♣, Zhang led out for 24000 and Sam smooth-called. At the turn of 7♣, Zhang continued betting, this time 45000. Sam called. Then on the river of 8♠. Zhang relaxed his hand and just checked. Sam followed suit. Zhang won with his 5♠ 6♠ straight. Sam mucked.
Table redraw. Final ten players.
The hand started off with Sunny Zhang and Norbert Koh limping in and Kwan Kit Kwok checking his big blind. At the flop of 8♣ 10♠ K♠, Koh checked to Kwok who bet out 16000. Koh called. At the turn of 3♠, Koh slid out 25000, was raised to 50000 by Kwok, and Koh quickly mucked.
Kamran Siddiqui watched his stack fluctuate until he eventually had it all in. Koh asked for a count and called. Siddiqui had A♥ 7♥ and Koh had A♣ 6♠. The board was kind to Koh when it ran J♠ 6♣ 2♣ 9♠ 10♥ giving him a pair. With that, Siddiqui was eliminated in 11th place.
Siddiqui earns $2,800 for his finish.
After having lost a sizable pot against Jereld Sam, Paul Tartak took a final stand and went all in with Q♠ 6♥ which was called by Sunny Zhang with 9♣ 9♥. The board ran 2♠ 6♦ 2♥ A♦ 4♣ and just like that, another fell.
Tartak collects $2,800 for his finish in 12th place.
Since Day 2, Erik Billgren has been known to land sets on the board. That happened again in a hand between him and Sunny Zhang. It started off with a limp by Billgren on utg, a limp by Zhang on the cutoff, and a check by David Steicke on the big blind. At the flop of K♠ 5♦ 9♣, Steicke checked, Billgren bet 8000, Zhang raised to 22000, and after Steicke folded, Billgren called. At the turn of 3♥ action slowed down as both checked. Then on the river of 2♠, Billgren laid out a 35000 bet and Zhang called. Billgren showed his 5♣ 5♥ set and Zhang was amused that Billgren landed another set.
Sunny Zhang is definitely one of the chip leaders now that he has won a couple of pots against Peter Nguyen before the bust. Zhang had been quite active and in a recent hand, he three-bet David Steicke’s 11500 bet to make it 27500 to go. Steicke folded.
Shortly after, he raised to 11000 and was called by Erik Billgren on the big blind. At the flop of 6♠ 4♠ 6♦, both checked to see a free turn card of 9♣ land on the board. Billgren checked to Zhang who bet 15000, and Billgren folded.
Zhang took in another small pot in a hand against Bryan Huang. Action began with a raise by Zhang pre flop to 11000 and Huang on the big blind flat-called. At the flop of Q♦ 5♦ 6♦, Huang checked to Zhang who bet 15000, and with that, the hand was done as Huang folded.
