Andy Ho could not get his day going and finally had to get his short stack in the middle holding K♥ J♠. Ho was called by Pasi Heinanen who held 4♣ 4♦. With the board running 3♠ 6♥ 4♠ Q♣ 10♦, Heinanen improved to a set and more chips while Ho packed up to leave.
Hendrik Appel entered a pre flop raising frenzy which had Flo Campomanes all in for his tournament life. Campomanes held A-8 against Appel’s J-9. With a jack turning up on the board, Campomanes was eliminated.
David Steicke tried to push out Renato Labadan in a hand that saw a flop land 7♠ J♦ 9♠. Sending out an 11500 bet, Steicke responded with a 55000 push that would put Labadan all in. Labadan decided to call for his tournament life and saw that he was slightly ahead with K♣ J♣ against Steicke’s A♠ 4♠ nut flush draw. With the turn of 10♠, that sealed his fate, and Steicke took it down while eliminating Labadan in the process.
We only caught the action at this point, J♠ A♦ 6♦ 10♠ with Wittmann betting 3600 and Pham smooth-calling. Then on the river of K♣, Wittmann checked to Pham who tossed a yellow chip in worth 5000. Wittmann called and was pained to see Pham reveal a Q♦ J♦ straight. Pham now has around 57000 while Wittmann falls to around 16000
Kwan Kit Kwok and Hendrik Appel, both big stacked at the same table, tangled in a pot that we only caught at a turn board of 6♠ 10♣ 6♦ 5♥ and a 9000 pot already in the middle. Appel checked to Kwok who slid out 5500 which was enough for him to claim the pot as Appel folded.
Hijack seat player Norbert Koh began the betting with a raise to 1800, however the player beside him, Jereld Sam, re-popped it to make it a total of 4600. Giving it a bit of thought, Koh smooth-called and both went to see a flop of 5♥ Q♦ J♠. Acting first, Koh checked to Sam who slid out a 3000 bet to which Koh responded with a raise of his own to 10000. Sam opted to fold and Koh claimed a nice pot.
Ben Abrahams sent both Robert Birss and Nam Le into a discomforting “what to do” situation when he re-raised Birss initial button raise of 1700 that was called by Le on the small blind. Abrahams raise was 12000 big ones which sent both Birss and Le tanking on their respective turns. Both eventually folded and Abrahams showed his A-Q.
Hideki Takafuji looked down at a pair of aces and decided it was time to push it all in the middle. He found himself a caller in the big blind, Peter Nguyen. At the showdown,
Takafuji: A♦ A♠
Nguyen: J♣ 6♠
The board ran 5♠ 9♥ A♣ 8♦ 8♣ improving Takafuji’s already winning hand to a full house. He is now up to 50000 chips.
Peter Nguyen has just ended Yuri Ishida’s day at the Main Event. We will get you the details once we get a chance to chat with Nguyen.
With that elimination, Nguyen crosses over into the six-digit chip mark.
