Victor Chong loses the staredown

Level: 10 Blinds: 400-800 Ante: 100

Last time we were here in Macau, Victor Chong finished in 2nd place at the Championships Event. Today, he seems to be having a rough time out in the field, losing chips to Qui Han Wei to send his chips well below the average.

Catching the action at the flop J 3 9, Chong bet 2300, Qui raised to 6k, and after giving Qui the long staredown, Chong called. On the 2 turn, no bets were fired, but on the 5 river, Qui sent out 10k and Chong check-called. After Chong revealed his 5 5 set, Qui got extra stares to go with the pot.

Numbers are in! 377 entries for the Main Event

Level: 10 Blinds: 400-800 Ante: 100

Okay, we’ve got the scoop on the numbers. There were an additional 48 late entries today bringing our total tally to 377 and the prize pool to a massive HKD 3,619,200. A total of 63 players will see a piece of that pie with the eventual champion claiming the lion’s share HKD 587,000.

Back to the game, there are 166 players left in the running. Our day’s entering chip leaders, Zhang Chen Xu and Dong Guo are faring well out there maintaining their big stacks.

Choong Kian Weng hits Kazuhiko Yotsushika twice

Level: 10 Blinds: 400-800 Ante: 100

Decorated APT champion, Choong Kian Weng, went head-to-head against Kazuhiko Yosushika in two separate hands that sent Yosushika re-entering just before the final buzzer. The first hand between them saw a flop 8 9 10. Yosushika moved all in with 8 9, one player folded, and Weng called with J Q. The turn 4 and river J kept Weng ahead for a double up.

The next hand came several orbits later. Yosushika shoved his short stack with K-J and Weng sent him packing with his 4-4 set.

Day 2 will play another 8 rounds of 60 minutes each. By the size of the field, we doubt the money bubble will burst today but that’s a wait and see.
