Day 1a has just ended with 32 players surviving. Leading in chips is Filipino player John Sayo with 95,050 chips.
Split pots are the worst to see especially when you are on the winning end. In this hand, Dong Hyun Kim, Jun Javalera, and Gerald Casey were in a raised pot preflop with the board showing 2♣ 5♠ 4♣. Kim bet 2500, Javalera called, then Casey shoved with over 20K chips. Kim followed suit and shoved right behind which pushed out Javalera. Kim had A♣ Q♣ for a nut flush draw and Casey had A♥ A♦. The turn of 3♠ and river of 6♦ produced no club but it did give both players a straight on the board. They ended up having to split the pot.
Aso Seitaro landed himself a hefty pile of chips in a hand that began with Rebei Karim raising to 1850. Czardy Rivera and Seitaro called. The dealer flopped a 2♥ 9♥ 10♥, Karim bet 3500, Rivera called, then Seitaro shoved his 23,175 chips. Karim made the call which sent the action to Rivera. He too moved all in for an additional 25,275. This time, Karim decided to give up his hand and it was heads up between Seitaro and Rivera. Seitaro had 9♠ 9♣ and Rivera had A♥ J♥. The turn of 7♠ and river of K♠ were not the outs Rivera needed and Seitaro won a huge triple up. He is now up to 75k chips.
Yao Hui picked up a nice pot in a hand against George Salud. With a pot of over 10k in the middle and a board of 3♦ 7♠ A♠ 6♣, Salud bet 6200 and Hui called. On the river of 3♥, both players checked and Hui won with his A♦ 10♣ top pair against Salud’s 8♣ 8♠
A bit of action between Lester Edoc and Gerard Bringley kicked off with a raise by Edoc on the utg seat. Action folded around the table until it landed on sb player Bringley. He called the 1050 and the dealer laid out the flop of 4♥ 7♠ 9♦. Bringley checked to the raiser Edoc who bet 1400 and Bringley called. The turn of 5♠ saw both players checking which signaled the dealer to reveal the river card of K♠. Acting first, Bringley bet 2k, Edoc raised it to 5k, and Bringley flat-called. Bringley won with his K♦ 4♦ two pairs.
On a board of 6♣ J♣ Q♠ and a raised pot before them, Wally Sombero checked to Marc Rivera who bet 2k. Sam called and so did Sombero. At the turn of J♦, Sombero and Rivera checked to Razavi who bet 4700. Sombero folded but Rivera called. Then on the river of 5♣, Rivera checked to Razavi again who went all in with his remaining 8500. Rivera eventually called and won the hand with his A♣ Q♦ top pair against Razavi’s pocket eights.
Rebei Karim and JC Sayo were at it again. The first round saw Karim win, then Sayo the next round, for this third round, it began with Sayo limping in then calling Karim’s raise to 2700. The board ran 6♦ 6♣ 6♠ to which Karim bet 3k. Sayo called and the dealer turned an 8♣. Karim bet 8k and took the pot with Sayo folding. Karim back up to around 70K.
Robert P. and Jun Javalera were in a heated pot that had 13k in the middle and a board of 5♣ J♦ 8♦. Javalera bet 7k and was called by Robert P. The turn of J♣ saw Javalera bet 10k, and Robert P. decided it was time to get all his chips past the betting line. Javalera folded and Robert P. scooped the pot. He is now up to 73k.
Late entry player Czardy Rivera was in a hand against Nick Blackburn and Bell John Perez with a flop already spread 7♥ 9♠ 10♠. Rivera checked to Perez who bet 2k, Blackburn raised to 7k, then Rivera check-raised all in for over 25k. Much too much, Perez and Blackburn folded giving Rivera a nice pile to add to his arsenal.
