Immediately after doubling up Marc Rivera, SJ Kim was on a mission to get some of it back. With a raised pot preflop, the dealer spread the flop of 7♦ 6♣ K♦. both Rivera and Kim checked to see a free turn of 2♣. Kim stopped checking and bet 3200 which Rivera matched. On the river of J♣, Kim continued and laid out 4500. This time, Rivera folded up.
Marc Rivera and SJ Kim have faced each other one-on-one several times but a showdown was never attained. Things were different in this hand with Rivera all in holding pocket tens and Kim there with him holding pocket nines. The board kept Rivera ahead and he doubled up his short stack. Rivera now has around 28k.
With lots of preflop / flop action, the pot grew to 10k with Gerald Casey and Simba in the battle. The board was K♠ A♠ Q♦ 4♠ and Casey went all in with 12k left. After a couple of minutes of deliberation, Simba called. Casey showed A♥ Q♣ and Simba had K♥ 9♣. The river of 5♣ was good for Casey and he doubled up.
After a raised pot preflop, Sungchang Park and Thong Botho watched the dealer felt A♠ 4♦ 9♦.Park checked, Botho bet 2500, and Park called. On the turn of 10♠, action got heavy duty with Park first checking, Botho betting 6500, then Park check-raising to 16k. Botho was not going anywhere and he pushed all in with his 36.5k chips. Park called and it was a crazy showdown.
Park A♥ 10♣ top two pairs
Botho 9♣ 9♥ set
The river of 2♠ kept Botho on top and he doubled up through Park. Park is now below 10k. He was later eliminated by Seung Soo Jeon.
Earlier today, Nicolas Ragot doubled up against Ian Brion, but once wasn’t enough. In this hand, he doubled up through him again. It began with a raise by Aaron Mermelstein to 1800, Brion calling, Ragot moving all in with 12k, Mermelstein folding, and Brion making the call.
At the showdown, Brion had A♥ J♣ and Ragot had Q♦ 10♦. The board ran 9♠ Q♠ 4♥ 7♦ 6♦, and just like before, Ragot came from behind and doubled up.
Euryd Rivera and Yoichi Uesugi were all in preflop with Vladimir Geshkenbein and George Taylor both in the hand. The board ran K♠ Q♣ K♥, and Geshkenbein and Taylor both checked. On the turn of 7♦, a side pot began with Geshkenbein betting 11k and Taylor calling. On the river of 6♣, Geshkenbein continued and bet 32k. Taylor called once again.
Geshkenbein won the side pot with Q♠ Q♦ full house against Taylor’s Q♥ 9♥ two pairs and scalped Rivera and Uesugi as well with Rivera holding pocket jacks and Uesugi with trips with king-jack. Geshkenbein now up to 170k.
With the field slowly downsizing, the players remaining at the felt seem to be getting more aggressive. At table 1, a preflop raise war led to a big pot between Seung Soo Jeon and Harold Sonnenberg. It started with a 2k raise by Jeon, a three-bet to 5k by Sonnenberg, a massive boost to 17k, and Sonnenberg flat-called.
At the flop of 10♦ 3♠ 10♥, Sonnenberg checked to Jeon who continued with his big bets, sending out 25k. Sonnenberg announced all in for an additional 30k more to Jeon. This sent Jeon into the think tank then decided to give up his run for the big pot in the middle.
Sometimes top pair seems good but with a questionable kicker, it could be critical to one’s stack. For this situation, Harold Sonnenberg raised it up to 1700 and found two callers, Hii Hieng Dee and Lito Quijano. At the flop of 7♠ 8♥ 6♥, everyone checked for a free drop of the turn of K♣. Raiser Sonnenberg still checked while Dee took initiative and bet 2600. Quijano called and Sonnenberg folded. On the river of Q♦, Dee checked to Quijano who bet 3500. Dee called and won the hand with his K♠ J♠ top pair against Quijano’s K♥ 2♥ top pair low kicker. Quijano goes below average stack.
In a battle of the blinds, Byeongcheol Kim and Yah Loon checked the flop of 8♠ 3♥ 5♦. At the turn of 10♠, Kim bet 2500, Loon raised to 6500, and Kim smooth-called. On the river of 3♠, Kim banged out 10.5k, and much too much, Loon folded.
