HomeDay 1C of the APT Philippines 2015 Main Event drew a rich 94 runners and only 56 managed to survive and advanced to Day 2. A total of 123 players remain in contention for one of the most prestigious poker titles this side of the world as action re-starts at on Monday (April 20th) at 1:00 PM at the Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City, Philippines.
Unlike Day 1A and Day 1B when there were clear-cut chip leaders on both starting days, Day 1C was more balanced in such that the top chip-getter was ahead by a few thousands than the next in line.
Main Event Day 1C Chip Leader, Kwang Sic Kim
Heading the pack is Korea’s Kwang Sic Kim who had 82,800 in chips thanks to a timely double-up that brought him to the 60,000 chip-mark. In that hand, he was all-in pre-flop against the premium Q♣ Q♥ but wanted the showdown since he had an even better A♦ A♥. No trouble on the 2♦ 8♠ 6♦ flop and the turn K♠ and river A♠ formalized his rise to the top of the heap.
By end of the day, he accumulated more and shot up the chip lead though not by much against equally successful runners like Davor Derek (Australia) with 76,175; William McCauley (Canada) with 73,400; Lee Seok Ho (Korea) with 72,150; Samil Agarwal (71,775); and Alex Park (USA) with 71,725.
To compare, Day 1A chip leader Kenneth Khoo (Singapore) had 113,875 while Day 1B chip leader Ryan Hong (Australia) had 169,550. For complete chip counts entering Day 2, check the Chip Counts page.
The original total runners for all three starting days was set at 211 entries eclipsing last year’s APT Philippines Main Event total of 208. The prize pool was set at $409,300 with the lion’s share of $102,600 going to the champion. Monday’s Day 2 will play down to the money or when 27 players remain.
NLH 1 Champion, Amit Jain with the APT girls
Earlier on Sunday, Amit Jain of India won the NLHE 1 side event for $13,980 joining Haresh Kukreja as the second side event winner in this APT stop, which has arguably set a record-number of poker players from India participating in various events. Team India has five other players placing in the money in other side events plus nine runners remain in the running for the main event title.
