Joseph Talamayan bags a monster at Championships Event Day 1A; Hiruma Shinosuke & Cao Ngoc Anh win event trophies

Today’s featured event was the VND 6 Billion guaranteed CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT. 60 runners (47 uniques and 13 re-entries) got on the felt with 25 surviving the scheduled eight rounds. Bagging up an incredibly monstrous stack of 562,500 was Philippine player Joseph Talamayan. To give you an idea of how large that was, it’s equivalent to eleven starting stacks. He now sets the bar very high for players entering Day 1B.

We happened to catch one of Talamayan’s winning hands. It was big stack versus big stack. Monster Stack winner Eunho Kwon was all in with 4 4 against Talamayan’s A 2 on a turn board 4 3 K 5. Kwon had the set but Talamayan had the straight which held when the river came 8.

Among the players joining Talamayan to Day 2 were APT major title-holders: Soo Jo Kim (169,400), Huu Dung Nguyen (80,600), Punnat Punsri (60,900), and the ongoing series Main Event champion Zhou Jiaping (102,800).
