Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa Wins APT Noumea 2016 Opening Event

The two-day APT Noumea 2016 Opening Event saw a total of 171 entries take to the felt with only 56 players returning to Day 2 for the race to the first trophy. With many players determined to capture the title, majority of them newcomers to the APT arena and some familiar faces, it was truly one difficult race to reach the finish line.

The day began at a casual pace with only a few players taking an early fall. Action picked up after the bubble and after more than 12 hours of play, two players were left – David Deschamp from New Caledonia and Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa who was behind in the chip counts.

The turning point in the duel came when Tsuchikawa called Deschamp all the way to the turn. After a K? on the river, Deschamp moved all in with a call from Tsuchikawa. When the cards were tabled, Tsuchikawa tabled pocket sixes for a flopped set while Deschamp showed K? 7? for top pair on the board. This doubled up the man from Japan while greatly crippled the local’s chip stack. Tsuchikawa would then have all the chips a couple of hands later.
