Day 9 side event results: Ha Van Thien, Tran Thanh Tung, Amit Kaushik win trophies

The APT Summer Festival Hanoi 2022 is down to it last days at the Vietnam Series of Poker (VSOP). The series has been ongoing since July 12 and will run through Jul 24. A total of 18 side event trophies out of 27 have been claimed. The latest winners were Ha Van Thien, Tran Thanh Tung, and Amit Kaushik. Here are the highlights. 

HA VAN THIEN takes down the Super Bounty Hunter 

The two-day Super Bounty Hunter was a big hit with 158 runners hunting down scalps that paid out a lucrative VN₫ 3M per kill. This amassed a VN₫ 1,226,080,000 prize pool with VN₫ 474M set aside for bounty rewards. Day 1 ended when the final 8 was formed.

The game resumed today, clocking in at five hours. Nguyen Van Hoang carried in the chip lead and raced up to 4th place. Among the final three was Nguyen Doan Trung Hieu aka Pickle Rick who jumped into this event immediately after busting out 8th at the Main Event. Hieu was knocked out in 3rd place by Ha Van Thien to bring about heads up. Thien was ahead in chips, and as the blinds climbed to an average of 17 BB, short stacked Le Cong Vuong shoved on a flop 5 10 10 with a flush draw 3 7, Thien had 4 4, the turn A and river K sealed the win for Tien. 

Thien lifted his first ever APT win along with the VN₫ 173,550,000 first prize and an additional 8 bounties amounting to VN₫ 24,000,000. The new champ walked away with a combined VN₫ 197,550,000 (~US$ 8,422).

TRAN THANH TUNG wins the NLH Single Day 

 

The No Limit Hold’em Single Day was the biggest side event attraction with 79 putting up the VN₫ 7,700,000 (~US$ 330) buy in. The bubble burst on Tuan Tran who shoved with J 10 that missed the board against Norbert Koh’s A Q. Koh went on to reach 12th place. 

Among the players that reached the final table were the reigning Player of the Series winner Tran Duc Son and India’s Ankit Wadhawan who was on his fourth series cash. Tran fell in 8th place while Wadhawan went on to reach the final three. Korea’s Jeon Byeong Cheol had just eliminated Li Dinh Hung (4th) to open the round with a towering stack.

Running second was Tran Thanh Tung aka “hHhCPCTeamPro” with a healthy stack while Wadhawan was sitting on <7 BB. With only push or fold for Wadhawan, he proceeded to win two shoves against the leader with the second one A 10 dominating A 9. With Cheol on the downswing, the rest of his chips were claimed by Tran to start heads up. Throughout the final race, Tran stayed well ahead of Wadhawan. The last hand saw Tran A J luck out on Wadhawan’s A K when the board ran Q 8 6 J 4. Tran earned VN₫ 145,700,000 (~US$ 6,210) and his first ever APT trophy.

AMIT KAUSHIK delivers two double KOs at the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo 

The Deep Stack Hyper Turbo was done and dusted in a fast four hours. Amit Kaushik emerged victorious to claim his first ever APT win and series fourth side event title for India. Down to the final 6 players, average was just 13 BB, chip leader Kaushik knocked out two players simultaneously with A 6 trips on a running board 6 Q 6 9 7. He beat Nguyen Dinh Hung‘s J 3 and Jeong Seon Han‘s Q 3

Moments later, Kaushik tank-called all in and again booted two players with a single bullet. Kaushik had A 9, Se Han Park had K 10, and Myoung Joo Lee with 5 5. An ace found the board to quickly bring about heads up. Kaushik was ahead of Quang Vu nearly 4:1 but still had a tough time shutting him down. Instead, Vu doubled up twice to even up. The players opted on an even deal with VN₫ 5 Million and the trophy set aside for the eventual winner. Kaushik went on to ship it with A 2 dominating Q 2
