Final wrap: Terry Nguyen wins Player of the Series; highlights and last side event winners inside

We have reached the end of another exciting festival. From July 3 to 14, nonstop action took place at Pro Poker Club with APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh 2019 filling up the tables from start to finish. A total of 500 unique players attended representing 41 countries. There were 1,938 total entries for a grand prize pool of over VND 30.4 Billion (~USD 1.3 Million).

In the end, 24 players captured event titles, a couple of them running away with two trophies. A special prize was also awarded to Nguyen Tien Thanh “Terry” for winning the Player of the Series. Nguyen Tien Thanh “Terry” wins APT Player of the Series 

Numerous players were vying for the festival’s most prestigious award, the APT Player of the Series title. Players accumulated points throughout the series, whoever gathered the most won. The Vietnamese dominated the top three spots.

Crushing it with 6 cashes and one victory was Nguyen Tien Thanh “Terry”. He was awarded the 1st place POS Trophy, an exclusive watch, the customized POS Ring, and USD 800. 

Nguyen’s achievements:

  • 6th place – Deep Stack Turbo #1
  • 7th place – NLH Single Day Event #2

Cao Ngoc Anh and Nguyen Nam Duong finish POS 2nd and 3rd

The POS also rewarded Cao Ngoc Anh for 2nd place. He was awarded the 2nd place POS Trophy and USD 100. His achievements:

  • 40th place – Main Event
  • 18th place – Championships Event
  • 1st place – NLH Single Day Event #2
  • 2nd place – Monster Stack #2

Nguyen Nam Duong was also awarded a Trophy and USD 100.

His achievements: 

  • 2nd place – Main Event
  • 3rd place – Championships Event

Zhou Jiaping and Oliver Helm win first-ever major live titles

The first half of the series witnessed China’s Zhou Jiaping ship the Main Event for VND 1,892,170,00. This was his first-ever live tournament major title. Zhou overcame the 458 entry field. Buy-in was VND 22,000,000 for a prize pool of VND 8,885,200,000. 

The Championships Event closed the series with New Zealand’s Oliver Helm also shipping his first-ever major live title. He pocketed VND 1,218,670,000, his largest live score to-date. The event drew 192 entries at VND 38,500,000 each for a prize pool of VND 6,518,400,000. Helm became the second player from his country to win an APT major title, the first one was Paul Hockin back in 2014.

Nguyen Tien Thanh “Terry” wins High Roller Single Day #4

Nguyen Tien Thanh “Terry” made sure the APT Player of the Series title was his to own by closing out the festival with his first series victory. He won the High Rollers Single Day #4 to bring him to 7 total cashes. He overcame the 27 runners that ponied up the VND 40,000,000 buyin. Out of the VND 1,047,600,000 pot, five players got paid. A deal was struck at heads up against Konstantin Pogodin. Nguyen shipped VND 357,715,830 (~USD 15,400). 

Christopher Mateo wins second title at the Monster Stack #2

The Monster Stack #2 drew 132 at VND 11,000,000 each for a prize pool of VND 1,280,400,000 (~USD 55,000). 22 players got paid. Seizing the largest cut and denying Cao Ngoc Anh a second title was Philippine pro Christopher Mateo. Mateo won an earlier event making this his second of the series. He pocketed VND 310,490,000 (~USD 13,000). 

Yuen Kin Yuk wins the Deep Stack Turbo #2

51 turned up for the Deep Stack Turbo #2. Rising to victory was Hong Kong’s Yuen Kin Yuk to claim his first-ever live tournament event title and VND 90,180,000 (~USD 3,800). This was also Yuen’s first-ever APT cash. Buyin for the event was VND 6,600,000 for a prize pool of VND 296,820,000 (~USD 12,800). Nine players profited. 

Tobias Napel wins the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo #2

Netherlander Tobias Napel cashed in three events, one of them an 8th place finish at the Main Event. To close the series, he too shipped one of the last trophies at the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo #2. Napel outlasted the 55 entry field to claim VND 78,950,000 and the event trophy. Buyin for the event was VND 5,500,000 for a pot of VND 266,750,000 shared among 10 players.
