Final day side event winners: Huang Zhi Hao, SJ Kim, and Huang Pin Hao

The final day of APT Taiwan 2019 was booming with action and plenty of fun at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association. Running alongside the Championships Event were three side events hunting down its champion. By 9pm, all events were claimed: Huang Zhi Hao (Monster Stack 2), SJ Kim (High Rollers Single Day), and Huang Pin Hao (Deep Stack Hyper Turbo). Congratulations to the winners!

Monster Stack 2: Huang Zhi Hao – TWD 348,200 (~USD 11,400)

The two-day Monster Stack was the choice for 91 runners at TWD 16,500 (~USD 540) each for a healthy pot worth TWD 1,324,000 (~USD 43,200). 16 players got their hands on the money after the fall of a short stacked player to Joven Huerto. It was all in at the flop 6 8 K with the at-risk player ahead 6 8 two pair against Huerto’s K J top pair. The turn and river switched it as it ran K and K improving Huerto to quads. 

With the money at hand, eliminations were quick. The final table included Mike Takayama who was gunning for the APT Player of the Series title. Takayama finished 6th. 

The battle for the trophy was between two locals, Huang Zhi Hao and Po Cheng Xang. Huang had an enormous chip advantage and was able to nail it shut. Final hand was all in on the turn on a board that completed 4 8 6 6 3. Huang with A 8 to Xang’s K 8

High Rollers Single Day: Soo Jo Kim – TWD 471,000 (~USD 15,400)

26 turned up for the High Rollers Single Day at TWD 54,000 each for a pot of TWD 1,261,000 (~USD 41,200). Only the top 5 spots gained. APT circuit regular Soo Jo Kim crippled Kenichi Takarabe at heads up then claimed the trophy along with TWD 471,000 in cash. 

The final two hands were: Kim doubled up with K K over Takarabe’s K J on a low board. To capture the win, Kim’s A 5 made a straight against Takrabe’s J 10 on a board of 4 8 2 3 J

Deep Stack Hyper Turbo – Huang Pin Hao – TWD 73,000 (~USD 2,400)

It was full speed ahead for the last event in the roster – the TWD 5,500 buyin Deep Stack Hyper Turbo. 48 were in action for a pot of TWD 232,800 (~USD 7,600). 

Down to the final three players, Korea’s Seung Yeol Kim and Taiwan’s Philip Wang faced off drawing a large crowd at the rail. Kim won, Wang busted, it was heads up between Kim and Huang Pin Hao. 

It only took a couple of hands for the winner to rise. Huang shoved with A Q, Kim risked it with K 4, the board ran 6 Q J 5 A. Huang bagged his first-ever APT win and pocketed TWD 73,000 for his win.
