HomeIt was a record-breaking day at the APT Championships Philippines 2017 with an enormous 272 entry field for Main Event Day 1B at Resorts World Manila. While a big turnout was expected, the eventual outcome was to the roof with the poker room filled to capacity and alternates lined up eagerly waiting to hit the felt. After the scheduled eight levels of play, the massive field downsized to 150 players with Filipino pro Euryd Rivera emerging as the chip leader with a stack of 137,550.
Main Event Day 1B Chip Leader, Euryd Rivera
From the starting gun, Day 1B was already looking to be a big one with 93 players qualifying for bubble protection. With the tournament offering a deep structure, a starting stack of 500 times the big blind and sixty minute levels, this translated to lots of playing time with plenty of hands to choose from.
At the end of the day, there were eleven players who joined Rivera in the six digit chip range. Coming in second in chips was Japan’s Asakura Yasuyuki who bagged up 133,925 followed by China’s Haibo Jiang in third position with 130,300 in chips. These were the top three leaders of the day.
With such a huge field, there were bound to be past APT Main Event champions in the mix. Also making it through the day were Ha Duong from Vietnam with a healthy 120,900 in chips, Mike Takayama – the second highest ranked Filipino of the day – with 91,650 in chips, and in the middle of the pack were John Tech, Joven Huerto, and Linh Tran.
Today’s survivors will merge with the 90 remaining players of Day 1A for the second round battle at tomorrow’s Day 2. A total of 240 players strong will blanket the poker room starting at 1pm.
