Day 2: Shubham Agarwal grabs second APT trophy; Ritwik Khanna, Bhanu Prakash, Vinay Rajpal, & Pravin Garle win events

Day 2 of  the APT Online Series India 2021 drew another substantial crowd with 3,014 signing up across five completed events. Emerging victorious were Ritwik “Ritwikkhanna” Khanna, Bhanu “Chennaino1” Prakash KC, Vinay “vinay09” Rajpal, Pravin “littlejony” Garle and Shubham “backchod” Agarwal who claimed the second APT Trophy on offer after taking down the Monday Major. The APT Player of the Series race is officially underway. Players that have cashed at any of the APT events (satellites not included) received points towards the leaderboard. The player with the highest number of points accrued at the completion of the festival wins the APT POS Trophy, APT POS Ring, and a luxury watch. Top 25 players will also receive a piece of IN₹ 30 Lac in Real Cash Bonus (RCB) with the winner guaranteed IN₹ 6 Lac. After two days of games, Aman “KarmaPoker” Parakh continues to hold the top spot. 

Event recaps

Trophy Event: Monday Major – Shubham “backchod” Agarwal – IN₹ 4.09L (~US$ 5,500)

The Monday Major was the most popular event of Day 2 with players piling in for a chance at winning the second APT Trophy. After nearly four hours of late registration, 281 players was the head count plus 337 re-entries for 618 total entries. With buy in at a mid ranged IN₹ 3,850, the IN₹ 20 Lac guarantee was breached for a sweeter IN₹ 21.63 Lac prize pool. Overcoming a huge deficit at heads up was Shubham “backchod” Agarwal for a highly deserving first ever APT title, trophy and cash worth IN₹ 4.09L.

The Monday Major ran a lengthy 9 hours and ten minutes with the final table taking up the last hour and a half. Among the finalists was APT POS frontrunner Aman “Karmapoker” Parakh who was seeking his second win having claimed Day 1’s Monster Stack event. His bid fell short however, exiting in 7th place to Sanat “mehro2511” Mehrota. Mehrota also denied Sumit “boronyx” Sapra (4th) who was on his fifth bullet, and Anant “Pro_Pro” Purohit (3rd), to carry in a 3:1 chip lead at heads up against Shubham “backchod” Agarwal. 

Mehrota’s lead widened to a dominating 12:1 advantage but he still couldn’t close it out. Instead, Agarwal doubled up twice, even cracked Q Q with K 3, king on the flop, to help him climb out of the deep hole. It took 40 minutes of heated exchanges for the winner to emerge. Final hand saw Agarwal’s Q K spike the queen to outdraw Mehrota’s A 10.

On a side note, numerous players fired more than one bullet including Chirag “miyagi” Sodha who bought in a shocking ten times and still turned a profit with his 6th place finish.

APT #8: Deepstack – Ritwik “Ritwikkhanna” Khanna – IN₹ 1.12L (~US$ 1,510)

The highly affordable Deepstack event set the pace for Day 2 with 594 entries (282 uniques, 312 re-entries) for a guarantee smashing prize pool of IN₹ 5.94 Lac. Just over five hours of play, Ritwik “Ritwikkhanna” Khanna shipped it to claim the IN₹ 1.12L first prize. Helping him along were a couple of pocket fives that held their weight.

During bubble round to the final table, Khanna knocked out two players simultaneously, with 5 5 set on the river dusting kashish007’s K 10 and Daniel90’s 10 10. At the final table with four remaining, Khanna’s pocket fives shined again, improving to a straight to eliminate “13rishabh” 9 K. Khanna went on to rail Priyank “Piko1432” Kothari with A Q straight beating 7 7 on a board 4 2 K 10 J to enter heads up nearly 2:1 ahead of “AACES71”. On a side note, Kothari bought in a stunning 16 times and still profited.

It was an aggressive race to the finish. “AACES71” caught up then went on a shove spree to widen the gap. Khanna landed a crucial double up with Q 6 over 8 5 on a board 9 2 8 2 Q to cripple “AACES71” down to less than a small blind. Khanna won it on the next hand.

APT #9: Progressive KO – Bhanu “Chennaino1” Prakash – IN₹ 1.44L (~US$ 1,940)

Fresh from a runner up finish at the opening day’s last event, Bhanu “Chennaino1” Prakash came out for redemption and got it at the PKO event. He outlasted the 391 entry field to collect IN₹ 1.05L and IN₹ 39K in bounty rewards.

At the final table, Prakash booted two players, “Radha1110” (6th) and Chirag “miyagi” Sodha (5th) however at three handed, play was dominated by Gurupasad “fish_calling” Gupta who jumped to a big lead. Prakash trimmed it on a double up off  “tiltplay” who then fell to Gupta. At heads up, the lead bounced back and forth. The final hand, Prakash was slightly ahead. Gupta shoved J A, Prakash called with 7 7, the board felted 7 6 6 10 3 for a commanding full house.

APT #12 Pot Limit Omaha – Vinay “vinay09” Rajpal – IN₹ 1.94L (~US$ 2,615)

Vinay “vinay09” Rajpal crushed the competition at the Pot Limit Omaha event, eliminating every player at the final table. At heads up, he faced Vivekk “Vivek25” Dube, the first APT Online Series India Player of the Series winner. Dube doubled up four times and still wasn’t able to overtake Rajpal. On the fifth shove called, Rajpal shipped it with K 3 6 K full house against Dube’s A 6 5 7 straight, on a board that ran 10 K 9 8 9. Rajpal collected IN₹ 1.94L for his victory.

The 6-Max Turbo produced the second largest field of Day 2 with 598 total entries (331 uniques, 267 re-entries). This boosted the prize pool to IN₹ 9.87 Lac. Pravin “littlejony” Garle held the chip lead for most of the final table. After Garle railed “rajukumar541a” in 3rd place with A A dominating 5 A, a deal was immediately struck at heads up. Chip leader Garle went on to win the flip against Pratibh “pratibhsaluja” Saluja to close the event. Garle earned IN₹ 1.71L for his victory.
