Australian Ace: Ryan Hong Leads Day 1B of APT Philippines 2015 Main Event

The APT Philippines 2015 Main Event continued play on Saturday with Day 1B of the highlight tournament of the nine-day poker festivities at the Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City, Philippines.

Main Event Day 1B Chip Leader, Ryan Hong

After eight levels of play, Ryan Hong of Australia surged to the top of the chip rankings combined from Friday’s Day 1A and today’s play. The veteran Australian poker pro hauled in 169,550 in chips way ahead of the top chip-getters today and also ahead of yesterday’s top player, Singaporean’s Kenneth Khoo, who had 113,875 in chips.

28 runners survived Day 1B creating a total of 67 survivors that have already qualified for Day 2 set on Monday (April 20th). The total runners for this Main Event is now at 117 players with more expected to play in Day 1C set Sunday (April 19th) at 1:00 PM.

Thanks to a couple of key hands—a set and the premium starting hand of bullets—Hong shot up the rankings post-dinner break of Day 1B.

The first one involved his pocket threes on a flop of K 10 3 for the set against opponents who eventually went all-in with A K and Q Q. The turn 4 and river 7 meant Hong’s hand held and at this point, he crossed the century mark and became the chip leader.

The second one was as simple and as easy; after a series of raise and re-raises pre-flop, Hong and an opponent were in the pot on a flop of 2 10 5. Hong’s opponent shoved and it was an easy call for Hong, who had A A. The opponent had Cowboys and Hong’s bullets shot it down when the turn 10 and river 3 landed eliminating the player and adding more to Hong’s already large stack.

Hong wasn’t the only one successful in Day 1B. Others who played well were; Bobby Zhang (Australia) with 108,175; David Steicke (Hong Kong) with 84,300; Sebastian Benz (Germany) with 79,700; and Julius Malzanini (Germany) with 72,275. Check full Day 1B chip counts here.
