Asian Poker Tour Boosts Guarantee to US$ 1 Million for APT Philippines 2020

Coming April 27 to May 10, the Asian Poker Tour brings the region its richest festival of the season. For the first time, a 14-day series is planned for APT Philippines with larger guaranteed prize pools amounting to US$ 1 Million.

Through the years, APT Philippines has consistently been one of the tour’s most popular stops. Last year, the series set a new tour record for the country with 503 Main Event entries and nearly US$ 1.8 million in prizes. We aim to surpass those numbers. Large attendance and record-breaking fields are anticipated throughout as APT Philippines falls during Japan’s Golden Week holiday.

A glimpse of what players can look forward to, 27 custom-crafted tournaments are scheduled with buy-ins ranging from PHP 6,600 (~US$ 130) to PHP 160,000 (~US$ 3,200).

Four events carry a lofty guarantee so make sure to mark them down. The largest is the tour’s prime PHP 55,000 (~US$ 1,100) buy-in Main Event with an ambitious PHP 30,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. That figure is equivalent to over half a million dollars and is triple the previous year’s guarantee. A total of 600 entries will be needed. For those new to the APT, the Main Event structure is recognized as the best in the region. The event takes place from April 30 to May 5.

Running back-to-back with the main is the featured PHP 82,500 (~US$ 1,600) buy-in Championships Event. The guarantee has also been increased to PHP 15,000,000 (~US$ 295,000). Event runs for five days from May 6 to 10. Both the Main Event and the Championships Event pay out the top 10 percent of the field.

Other guaranteed events are the PHP 27,500 (~US$ 550) buy-in Mini Main Event, which opens the series with a PHP 7,000,000 (~US$ 137,500) guaranteed prize pool; the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo PHP 800,000 (~US$ 15,700) guarantee at a very affordable PHP 6,600 (~US$ 130) buy-in; and to close out the series is the two-day Monster Stack event. This highly popular game guarantees PHP 3,000,000 (~US$ 59,000) at a buy-in of PHP 27,500 (~US$ 550).

APT Philippines 2020 will also include a VIP High Rollers on May 1 to 2. The event will stream from start to finish with a rotating featured table. It is open to the public. Buy-in is PHP 160,000 (~US$ 3,200). Other costlier games scheduled are High Rollers events with buy-in of PHP 107,500 (~US$ 2,100) and High Rollers Single Day events with buy-in of PHP 86,000 (~US$ 1,700).

Returning to the APT lineup is the Teams Event and with it a very unique style. The team is made up of two players that alternate at every street. This is a mixed game PLO & NLH with team buy-in of PHP 33,000 (~US$ 650).

Traveler info

APT Philippines takes place at Resorts World Manila, the first integrated resort casino in the Philippines. It is located directly across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3. The facility offers a wide variety of restaurants, coffee shops, shopping outlets, cinema, and a performing arts theater. There is also an abundance of hotels to choose from within walking distance to the venue, namely the Holiday Inn Express, Marriott, Maxims, Belmont, Sheraton, and Hilton. Rates vary per establishment.

The weather will be hot in April. It is summertime in the country. However, the temperature inside the venue could bring a chill so pack a jacket just in case. The local currency is the Philippine Piso. There are exchange counters in the airport and a 24 hour money changer at the venue.
