Nguyen Tan Phat wins the Mystery Bounty

The series opener Mystery Bounty event drew 48 entries across two flights and after two days of play, Vietnam’s Nguyen Tan Phat emerged victorious for his maiden APT title.

Nguyen Tan Phat – Mystery Bounty champion

To get to the top, Phat had quite a number of lucky moments. He entered the day running fifth in chips, by bubble time, he rivered a two-outer set to deny Yik “Ray” Chiu‘s two pair. It was all in preflop; Chiu pushed K J, Phat called with 7 7, the board ran K Q 2 J 7

With the money intact, Phat got lucky again. He cracked Nguyen Minh Cong‘s pocket kings with 5 6 flush. This sent Cong down to just 2.5 BB and busted to Ng Chow Han who was awarded the first mystery bounty ticket. Ng drew VN₫ 17,620,000.

Next to go were Yoann Gimenez and Dennis Ng, both players losing all their chips to chip leader Phat. Gimenez missed his flush draw gamble, in turn, Phat drew his first mystery bounty reward worth VN₫ 28,470,000. Before Dennis hit the rail, he grinded to a monstrous stack that downsized significantly when his A K lost to Phat’s J 9 full house on a board A J 9 2 9. Phat eventually took the rest of Dennis’s chips and scored another mystery bounty reward worth VN₫ 11,620,000.

Heads up: Nguyen Tan Phat and Ng Chow Han

Heads up kicked off with Phat sitting on 38 BB and Ng with 12 BB. Within minutes, Ng doubled up with K K set beating A 4, then grinded to par. At this point, both players opted to chop the remaining payouts and bounties, leaving VN₫ 5 Million and the trophy to flip for. Phat won it for a grand total payout of VN₫ 139,320,000. For runner up Ng, it was an equally impressive result. A confessed cash game player, it was his first ever tournament. Ng collected a combined VN₫ 111,850,000.

Congratulations to Nguyen Tan Phat! With this win, he is now frontrunner in the APT Player of the Series race.

After a quick six hours of work, decorated local pro Pham Ngoc Quoc Bao added a feather to his cap, claiming his first ever APT win. For his efforts, Pham pocketed VN₫ 55,940,000 and an APT trophy to commemorate the achievement. For runner up Nguyen Van Thuy, it was an impressive grind having nearly bubbled in a three way showdown as the shortest stack.
