The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has announced that its next event to be staged 4-15 March 2020 in Taipei, Taiwan will move forward.
Making the announcement Jeff Mann, Chief Executive Officer of APT, said that given the current status of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the region, a lot of thought had gone into maintaining APT’s event schedule.
“It goes without saying that our prime concern was the health and safety of all those to be involved with the event, but after looking at the situation on the ground; the measures being undertaken by the Taiwanese authorities, and the very strict daily health checks to be implemented by our host partner, the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Club (CTP Club) throughout the duration of the event, we felt there was no need to cancel.
For us though, the final decision was made by our customers – our poker players both local and International – they have voted overwhelmingly that APT Taiwan should proceed”, said Mann.
The inaugural APT Taiwan last year attracted 3,251 player entries representing 28 nationalities participating in 23 separate poker events with the 5-day main event attracting 523 player entries, the best attendance achieved by an APT event in 2019.
“Obviously, with travel restrictions in place for some countries, we will not get the number of International players as last year, but local participation is expected to be strong. There is no change to this 26-event, 12-day poker festival schedule as originally announced, except that understandably all prize pool guarantees have been removed, and there will be two starting days for the Main Event instead of three. We are looking forward to another successful event in Taiwan”, concluded Mann.
