APT Taiwan 2019 Final wrap: Mike Takayama wins APT Player of the Series + festival highlights

Twelve days of thrilling APT Taiwan 2019 took place at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association from October 9 to 20 however sadly, the festival has come to a close. In the aftermath, two new major APT champions emerged and 18 side event winners. Congratulations to all of them! APT Taiwan 2019 results 

The Asian Poker Tour sends its gratitude to everyone that came out to attend. Taiwan has become a special place for us to host our event and we are thankful for all the support. Over the course of 20 events, the festival attracted 443 unique players representing 24 nations. It drew a total of 1,907 entries and an overall grand prize pool worth TWD 35,051,300 (~USD 1,145,000). 

As we close out the series, we would like to invite everyone to our next event – APT Vietnam 2019 – from November 6 to 17 at Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City. We guarantee VND 14 billion in prizes. The Main Event buy-in is VND 22,000,000 (~USD 950) and the Championships Event is TWD 38,500,000 (~USD 1,700). We hope to see everyone there!

As with every APT festival, we end the series with the crowning of the APT Player of the Series winner. Congratulations to Mike Takayama! He accrued 1,147.07 for the highest number of points in the race.  

APT Player of the Series standings

1st place: Mike Takayama – Philippines – 1,147.07 points

Poker pro Mike Takayama cashed in six events for a total of 1,147.07 points. This earned him the prestigious APT Player of the Series title. Takayama was the only player to win two side events. For his stellar performance, Takayama was awarded the APT POS Trophy, APT POS Ring, an exclusive watch, and USD 800. Achievements listed below:

2nd place: Zong Chi He – Taiwan – 1,126.13 points

Series Main Event champion Zong Chi He took 2nd in the APT POS race. In addition to his incredible victory at the Main Event, Zong cashed at four other events to collect 1,126.13 points in total. He was awarded the APT POS 2nd place trophy and USD 100. Achievements listed below:

3rd place: Philip Wang – Taiwan – 1,076.03 points

Taiwanese pro Philip Wang cashed at six events with a victory at the Pot Limit Omaha Hi. He earned 1,076.03 points which was plenty enough to claim 3rd place in the POS race. Wang was awarded the APT POS 3rd place trophy and USD 100. Achievements listed below:

Festival highlights

Both featured tournaments broke their advertised TWD 6 million guarantee. The MAIN EVENT ran from October 10 to 15. It drew 285 entries at TWD 33,000 each to generate a TWD 8,293,500 (~USD 270,400) prize pool. Taiwan’s Zong Chi He shipped it for TWD 1,949,000 (~USD 63,500). He captured his first APT Main Event title.

The CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT ran from October 16 to 20 with 144 sign ups at TWD 49,500 buy-in for a prize pool worth TWD 6,285,500 (~USD 205,400). Closing that out was Korea’s Jinho Hong for TWD 1,697,300 (~USD 55,400). Hong had an incredible run at the series finishing 2nd at the Main Event then putting a lid on this one.

Opening the series was the Monster Stack 1 event. It was claimed by Hong Kong pro Daniel Tang by overcoming the 127 field. This was the largest side event of the series producing a prize pool of TWD 1,847,800 (~USD 60,000). Tang pocketed TWD 448,200 (~USD 14,600).
