HomeNow that all the trophies have been emptied out of the awards table, the APT Philippines 2017 has come to a close at the Winford Hotel & Casino. The nine-day event that ran from July 19-27, 2017 witnessed impressive achievements by several players including outstanding victories by Aik Chuan and Stephen Nathan. Here are all those top stories.
Malaysia’s Aik Chuan first-ever back-to-back APT Main Event champion
APT Philippines 2017 Main Event Champion, Aik Chuan
At the top of the list is Malaysia’s Aik Chuan who became the first-ever back-to-back APT Main Event champion. In addition to capturing his second APT Championship Ring, he shipped in the single largest cash prize of the series amounting to PHP 1,001,000. Chuan also finished second at the No Limit Hold’em event for another PHP 76,400 to add to his total earnings.
UK’s Stephen Nathan wins the APT Player of the Series

It came down to the final event of the series with UK’s hot-handed Stephen Nathan successfully defending his lead. Although Nathan was unable to seize an event trophy, he racked up an incredible five cashes to win the APT Player of the Series. Nathan was awarded the APT POS 1st place trophy, the exclusive APT POS Ring, an exclusive luxury watch, and he qualifies into the Game of Champions. Here is Nathan’s package of stats:
- 5th at the Head Hunter
- 5th at the No Limit Hold’em 1 Day 1
- 2nd at the No Limit Hold’em 1 Day 2
- 4th at the WeLoveSport.com Deep Stack Turbo
- 2nd at the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo
Finishing 2nd in the APT Player of the Series race was Korea’s Jang Geun Ji with four cashes in total. He took home the APT POS 2nd place trophy and qualifies in to the Game of Champions. Ji’s stats:
- 2nd at the Main Event Warm Up
- 2nd at the Pot Limit Omaha
- 9th at the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo
- 3rd Super Deep Stack Turbo
1-2-3 for Singapore’s Andy Li Xueyan

It’s hard enough to win one trophy at a poker festival, what more to win two or even three? But that’s exactly what Singapore’s Andy Li Xueyan did at the series. With these achievements, he also claimed another trophy for securing 3rd place in the APT Player of the Series race. He also qualifies into the Game of Champions. Here’s a look at his triumphs:
- 1st at the Main Event Warm Up
- 1st at the Pot Limit Omaha
- 1st at the Super Deep Stack Turbo
Tetsuya Tsuchikawa continues to lead 2017 APT Player of the Year race
The Man from Japan winning the APT Philippines 2017 Charity Event
Japanese pro Tetsuya Tsuchikawa kicked off the series with an 8th place berth at the Opening Event and a victory at the Ante Up for Charity. He accrued enough points to maintain his lead in the 2017 APT Player of the Year race.
