APT Macau Championships 2018: Final wrap, highlights, and last side event winners

After 12 fantastic days here in Macau, the APT Macau Championships 2018 reached its end. We, at the Asian Poker Tour, would like to send out our gratitude to everyone that came out and helped make our third festival of the year a big success. We had a record-breaking Main Event attracting 377 entries to surpass our personal Macau highest of 326 set back in 2009.

Throughout the festivities that ran from April 25 – May 6 at partner and host venue Macau Billionaire Poker in Babylon Casino, there were 1,800 entries, 28 countries represented, and nearly HKD 11.5 Million in cash prizes. The event also generated a healthy donation of HKD 50,200 to the Holy House of Mercy charity organization.

Here are the event highlights starting with the biggest winners:

Park Yu Sparrow Cheung – Championships Event

Hong Kong’s Sparrow Cheung and his stuffed charm Rosie won the Championships Event. He overcame the 108 entry field loaded with star-studded players. He won HKD 428,000, the APT Championships Trophy and the exclusive APT Championship Ring.

Hung Sheng Lin – Main Event

The Main Event set an APT Macau high of 377 entries and dragging everyone in was the advertised guarantee that nearly doubled from 2M to HKD 3,619,000. Taiwanese pro and APT regular Hung Sheng Lin overcame the competition to finally capture his first major APT title and the HKD 587,000 first place purse. He was also awarded the APT Main Event Trophy and the APT Championship Ring.

Xuan Tan – HIgh Rollers

The Chinese claimed seven trophies at the series, one of them was heavy-hitter Xuan Tan winning the High Rollers event. This was Tan’s first-ever cash at the APT and an impressive showing at that. He stood atop the 50 runners to pocket HKD 583,500.

Michael O’Grady – Super High Rollers (special event)

Australia’s Michael O’Grady claimed the biggest cash prize of the series. He topped the 6 player field of the HKD 200,000 entry Super High Rollers event to pocket the winner-take-all HKD 1,640,000 first prize.

Last side event winners:

Tatsuya Hirose – Japan – Monster Stack

The Monster Stack drew in 106 entries for a prize pool of HKD 514,100 of which 18 players earned a cut. Claiming the largest was a newcomer to the APT, Japan’s Tatsuya Hirose, earning HKD 125,000 for his victory.

Kwok Tang Gordon Tam – Six Handed Turbo

Hong Kong’s Kwok Tang Gordon Tam powered through the only short-handed event of the series. He defeated the 60 runners of the Six Handed Turbo to win HKD 34,000. This event had a HKD 2,200 buy-in for a prize pool of HKD 116,400 with 10 places paid.

Pete Yen Han Chen – Deep Stack Hyper Turbo

And snagging the last side event trophy was Chinese Taipei pro Pete Yen Han Chen. Chen only made his way to the festival on the last day but made sure to take home a victory. He topped the 55 entries of the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event and won HKD 15,600. Pretty good for a quick night’s work.  This event generated a prize pool of 53,350 with 10 places paid.

1st place – Hung Sheng Lin – 1,049,08 points

2nd place – Danilo Kai Paulsen – 886.79 points
