22-Year Old Leonarez Outlasts Field of 230, Rules 5th Cebu Open

After three days of frenetic poker action at the All In Poker Club at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines, the 5th Cebu Open has finally found its champion. 22-year-old Jessie Leonarez who hails from Albay, Philippines outlasted a field of 230 players to bring home the title and PHP 356,000.

The total prize pool was set at PHP 1,150,500 with 27 players placing in the money. This year’s attendance shattered the previous mark of 169 players set in 2008 making it the biggest in the tournament’s five-year history.

In the heads up battle, Leonarez was short-stacked against Michael de Leon but came from behind to capture his first ever major title. Others in the Final Table were Filipinos Kenneth Anzano, Jojo Lo, Marvin Fernandez, Mark Madlangsacay and Michael Enriquez. Joining them were Maxim Sorokin from Russia and Gordon Black from South Korea.
