HomeGood day poker players and welcome to another day at the APT Macau 2017 here in the Macau Billionaire Poker room. For the past six days, the Asian Poker Tour has been heating up the top floor of the Babylon Casino with nonstop poker festivities running from June 14th – 22nd.
Three days ago, the APT Main Event took center stage with 118 players on board. Yesterday, only 75 of them returned to the felt for Day 2. In the aftermath, the field downsized even more, with only 20 able to hold on to their chips. Today we will see those remaining warriors battle it out for a Final 8 berth but before they get there, it will be a tough fight for a piece of the HKD 2,039,000 prize pool with the money flowing at 18 players.
Entering Day 3 with an overwhelmingly large stack is Malaysia’s Choong Kian Weng with 852,000 in chips. Weng not only topped yesterday’s onslaught but he also led at the end of Day 1A. If he continues this momentum, we may be seeing him back in the spotlight this evening. In second position, though very far behind, is China’s Peng Fei Liu with 535,000 and Vietnam’s Dang Van Hien in third with 503,000.

Side Events and Results
There will be two side events running alongside the APT Main Event, the Monster Stack and another Deep Stack Turbo event. Here are the short details on those events:

Ben Gur claims the No Limit Hold’em 1
NLH 1 Champion, Ben Gur
The No Limit Hold’em 1 event played to a winner last night with Israel’s Ben Gur eliminating a slew of contenders to ship in the HKD 51,200 first place purse and the event trophy. There were 40 players for a prize pool of HKD 155,200.

Seitaro Aso late surge victory at the Deep Stack Turbo 1
Deep Stack Turbo 1 Champion, Seitaro Aso
The Deep Stack Turbo 1 had a wild ending with Seitaro Aso winning a series of shoves to go from the smallest stack to the man lifting the trophy. With three players remaining, everyone’s chips were in the middle. Aso had K♣ J♣, Feng Jiao Wang with K♥ 5♣, and short stacked Gan Soon Ann holding 8♠ 8♥. Gan tripled up with a full house on a board of 6♣ 6♦ 10♠ A♠ 6♠ while Aso fell to barely any chips having to split with Wang.
What happened next was nuts… Aso shoved blind three times and successfully landed a double up each time. With a decent stack now built up, Aso railed Gan in 3rd place. Several hands later, he did the same to Wang with his A♦ K♣ fully dominating her A♥ 6♥ on a final board of 10♠ 9♦ K♠ 10♣ 8♣. Aso was awarded the HKD 14,400 first place purse and told us with satisfaction, “Finally! It’s been a long time.”
