TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan – After only one live cash way back in 2019, Zhan Shuo Guo is now the toast of of a nation as he outlasted a field of 491 entries and emerge as champion of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Taiwan 2022 Main Event after a Heads-Up duel that lasted close to two hours at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) here.
In a roller coaster battle that saw the 27-year-old come into Heads-Up with a nearly three-to-one chip advantage to losing the chip lead and then go up 11-1 then allow his opponent Wen Fang Po to come to even terms before finally claiming victory is an experience he won’t soon forget.
The entire saga was broadcasted on a fifteen minute delay on the APT’s Twitch channel and saw the youngster overcome his more experienced adversary to cop the title and the NT$1,039,100.00 (US$32,682.00) top prize (agreed upon after a deal made when still 4-handed) and his first ever live victory.
His lone reported live cash was for NT$57,500.00 (US$1,883.00).
The end came when both competitors went all-in preflop (AIPF) with the 34-year-old Wen, already an APT champion this year after winning a High-Rollers event in the Philippines last month, holding K♠ 8♦ and Zhan with A♦ 8♠.
The board read: 9♣ 7♠ 5♣ 9♠ J♥ to officially Zhan the win.
Wen picked up NT$837,500.00 (US$26,341.00) in what has been a fruitful 2022 thus far with three titles and nineteen cashes overall with still three more months to go in the calendar year.
Zhan will be on everyone’s radar now after the grit and composure he displayed against the best in the country and with two more official stops for the APT this year, he may be more visible in the live game.
Congratulations, Zhan Shuo Guo–the champion of the APT Taiwan 2022 Main Event!
