Now that you are sitting down at the table, it’s important to check your chips add up to the correct amount. The tournament clock, located around the playing area, will show the number of chips each player starts with and includes the name of the event, buy in to the event, number of players currently playing and time to the next blind increase or break.
At the start of a tournament and after each break the cards will be spread face up so that players can check the deck is correct. If you have any questions or queries then don’t hesitate to ask the dealer or the floor staff who will be happy to help out. Take a look around at your opponents, you may well recognise a few of them. The Asian Poker Tour has had number of internationally known players at their events including Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, JC Tran… the list goes on.
The draw for which seat the dealer button will start is done on the lowest table available and when the tournament is due to start the Tournament Director will announce “Shuffle up and Deal”. At the Asian Poker Tour all of the tournaments start on time and you have until the end of the first break to enter the event, so don’t worry about being a little late as you will still start with a full stack.
