The Asian Poker Tour resumes today at Resorts World Manila with several exciting poker events lined up on the APT Philippines III 2016 menu. Also running alongside will be the final day of the APT-RWM Opening Event 50,000 Guaranteed, which kicked off in rousing fashion at yesterday’s opening day.
Line up of today’s Side Events
First up on the list is one for the big guns, the Pot Limit Omaha High Rollers event. Buy-in is USD 2,200. Previous winners of this series were Korea’s Sungil Choi and Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon. Cards start flying at 2pm. Here are a few things to know about this event:
- 80,000 starting stack
- Blinds begin at 100-200 700-max open
- 40 minute blinds
- Registration closes at the start of Level 10
- Two-day event
The next event on the floor is by far one of the most diverse tournaments offered on the schedule, the Battle of the Nations event. This is a dynamic duo tournament with two players per team. Nations can field in as many teams as they choose. Buy-in is USD 440 per team. A portion of the prize pool will be reserved as a special reward for the Last Team Standing. Game time begins at 3pm. The Japanese have dominated the past two editions of this event.
In the evening, at 7pm, is the Ante Up for Charity event, where players will be battling it out for a worthy cause. A third of the proceeds will be donated to the Foundation for These-Abled Persons, Inc., a non-governmental organization providing livelihood and rehabilitation programs for persons with disabilities. This contribution will go directly to the construction project of 50 duplex houses in Leyte, Philippines and will benefit the families of persons with disabilities, whose homes were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in late 2013. Buy-in is USD 150 with unlimited re-entries.
There will also be a Main Event Mega Satellite at 6pm. This satellite is a great option for those eager to play in the Main Event but would like to try to enter at a lower cost. Buy-in is only USD 180 and one seat will be awarded for every ten players. In the past, there have been players who have gone from winning a seat via this satellite then continuing on to cash it big at the Main Event.
Final day: APT-RWM Opening Event USD 50,000 Guaranteed
Before all the side events get underway, at 1pm, the 66 survivors of the festival opener will return to the felt for a race to that coveted first trophy. Yesterday saw a total of 262 entries generating a healthy prize pool of USD 63,530 that easily surpassed the guarantee. The eventual winner will be earning a nice lump sum of USD 15,860. With only 27 players seeing dividends, there will likely be heavy action at the starting shuffle with short stacks looking for an early boost.
One player who doesn’t have much to worry about in the early rounds is Filipino player Rodolfo Feliciano as he enters the final day with a stack that dwarfs the rest of the field, a massive 207,700 chips. Feliciano is looking to seize his first-ever APT trophy, having come very close, just one spot shy, at the previous APT festival in the No Limit Holdem 1 event.
The final 8 of this event will be featured on the RFID table and can be viewed in the APT Twitch.tv channel. You can also catch the daily highlights of the festival in the APT YouTube channel.
