PASAY CITY, Philippines – As the sun set, more participants descended upon the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts as the registration period for Flight A of the Mystery Bounty (Event #1) drew to a close and Flight B commenced at opening day of the APT 2022 Philippines here at the Grand Wing Casino, Newport World Resorts.
The lone Filipino to win a World Series of Poker (WSOP) Bracelet was a late registrant to Flight A as Mike Takayama, the winner of the 2018 WSOP $1,000 NLH Super Turbo Bounty (Event #59) and 2022 APT Manila Player of the Series entered in Level 9 along with 2018 APT Manila Main Event champion Lester Edoc. This pair has been tearing up the regional poker scene of late and have been on a massive roll, looking to include conquests here in their ever-growing trophy cases.
Joining them as late entrants in Flight A are two-time APT Side Event victor David “Dave Spade” Erquiaga and tournament specialist JR “Rhen Holz” Villanueva.
Meanwhile, Flight B includes reigning APT Manila Main Event champion Renniel Galvez sharing the same table with two-time 2022 APT Manila side event winner Niroshan Loganathan of Canada.
Former national champion Jose Drilon leads a strong Filipino contingent in the evening session with veterans Joseph Sia, Frederick Cruz and 2015 APT Poker Finale Main Event champion Joven “Oven Toaster” Huerto.
Flight A ended with 165 entries and 42 going through to the finale while Flight B closed with 181 entries, bringing the total to 346 and more than doubling the PhP2M (almost US$35,000.00) guaranteed prize pool.
This erases the old Mystery Bounty mark of 254 by almost one hundred and raises the total prize pool to over PhP5M (US$186,600.00) with 35 places paid and the victor pocketing PhP746,100.00 (almost US$13,100.00).
But anticipation will be sky-high on who will claim one of the three Mystery Bounties of PhP288,000.00 (US$5,045.00).
The thrilling climax to this riveting opener happens tomorrow at exactly 1:00PM (UCT+8).
