Stephen Nathan rules Main Event Day 1A; Anthony Trujillo wins the Super Deep Stack Turbo

A very familiar face in the Asian Poker Tour circuit dominated the Main Event action of the APT Korea Seoul 2018 ongoing at Paradise Casino in the Grand Walkerhill. UK’s Stephen Nathan eliminated three players at Day 1A and bagged up a massive 320,800 in chips.

Stephen Nathan, Day 1A chip leader

Midway through the starting flight, Nathan was already on the rise that by round six, he was the clear chip leader. Two levels later, he closed out the day on a card rush, winning three sizable pots in a row to further secure his high status. Nathan ended with over double his closest competitor.

First down the rung was Kelvin Beattie who won the Main Event Warm Up two days ago. Beattie looked very strong in the main bagging up the second largest stack of 149,500. Rounding out the top three was Han Tae Hoon with 146,000. Han has already cashed in two events at the series, 3rd at the NLH 1 and 9th at the Welcome Event.

Other notable players surviving the day were Kosei Ichinose, Jinwoo Kim, Andrew An, and current APT Player of the Series race leader, Stephane Blouin.

There were 42 entries at Day 1A with 23 advancing to Day 2. You can view the results via Main Event Day 1A Chip Counts

Anthony Trujillo wins the Super Deep Stack Turbo

Anthony Trujillo snatched up the only side event trophy up for grabs today. He topped the 33-entry Super Deep Stack Turbo tournament to pocket the KRW 3,675,000 first prize money and earn his first-ever APT career title.

Anthony Trujillo, Super Deep Stack Turbo winner

The Super Deep Stack Turbo lived up to its name in that it was crazy fast. In just over five hours, the bubble burst with eventual champion, Anthony Trujillo, booting out a player with his J J holding against A Q.

With six remaining and everyone guaranteed some pay, a shove fest followed. Benedict Koh fell to Richi Dong Hee Ko with K-J pairing up on the board to overtake Koh’s A-6. Despite the boost, Richi dropped next, risking it with another K-J but this time losing to Keisuke Hizayaki’s A-J. Vyacheslav Pak’s A-9 failed him against Hizayaki’s A-8 on a board of 3-8-3-J-2; and Trujillo sent Yoshiyuki Ishikawa to the rail with A-8 over K-2.

This quickly brought about the heads up bout between Trujillo and Hizayaki with both players fairly even in stacks. In the opening hands, Hizayaki pulled away after winning multiple heavy pots. With Hizayaki nearing a 2:1 advantage, Trujillo bit back in one big hand. Trujillo doubled up and took the lead with his Q 8 trips reigning over Hizayaki’s K J two pair on a board K 8 4 8 A. Bets were seen at every street with the shoves on the river.

Hizayaki proved a tough contender, charging back at Trujillo and managing to even it up. The final hand arrived with Hizayaki all in with K Q and Trujillo calling with 5 5. The board bricked and with slightly more chips, Trujillo was awarded the victory.
