Day 2 ends with 52 warriors led by Vietnam’s Nguyen Hoang Bach; Giuseppe Biasella wins the NLH

It was an action-packed day at the APT Philippines Championships 2018 with Day 2 of the Main Event as the featured attraction. 158 players returned to Resorts World Manila all suited up for their next round at the felt. With registration open for an extra hour, another 35 entries joined in bringing the total number of entries to 325. Here’s how it breaks down:

Day 1A – 118
Day 1B – 172
Day 2 – 35

Once the official tally was in, the prize pool came up on the screens. Players were now looking at a whopping Php15,762,500 pot, nearly double the advertised 8M guarantee. While everyone naturally eyed the top cash prize, Php2,674,900, the bottom also couldn’t be avoided. The event would be paying out 55 places.

At the last round of regulation play, the money bubble burst with the day’s entering chip leader, Malaysia’s Lee Chin Yong ousting Will T with Q Q over 9 9. Not long after, Day 2 closed with 52 remaining and Vietnam’s Nguyen Hoang Bach bagging up the largest stack of 434,000. Nguyen landed one of the biggest double ups of the day with his pocket aces fully paid by Kyle Lim. Hand history here.

Main Event Day 2 Chip Leader, Nguyen Hoang Bach

Within range of Nguyen was a decorated APT Main Event title-holder, Korea’s Gyeong Byeong Lee with 406,500. Every time we’d glance over at Lee’s table, he seemed to be in the action and winning a high number of those pots. Lee was first to cross over the 400K range after calling out Thomas Lee’s bluff shove on the river. We only caught the action at the river betting which you can read about right here.

To complete the top five players was Japan’s Hiroyuki Yoshimura with 346,500, Malaysia’s Lee Chin Yong with 344,500, and past APT Main Event champion Korea’s Soojo Kim with 324,000.

In addition to the two APT champions mentioned above, defending champion Mike Takayama also pulled through bagging up an above average stack of 168,000. Takayama was one of Day 2’s entry players. Ha Duong and Hisashi Ogi also fared well, closing with very healthy stacks, however for Iori Yogo, Gerard Bringley, and Alecz Chan, they’ve got some catching up to do in Day 3 to reach average.

Before bagging up, three players were eliminated and became the first ones to collect their dividends.

53rd Ong Jun Yang – Singapore – Php100,900
54th Maria Carmen Esdaile – Philippines – Php100,900
55th Benedict Koh – Singapore – Php88,300

Giuseppe Biasella wins the No Limit Hold’em

No Limit Hold’em Champion, Giuseppe Biasella

Italian player Giuseppe Biasella may have busted out of the Main Event early but jumping in the side event immediately after was a great decision. Biasella topped the 43-entry field to capture the Php272,200 winner’s prize money and the his first-ever APT event trophy. If you missed it, no fret because we have the Final 8 for you in the APT Twitch station and APT YouTube channel.

The last hand of the tournament saw Junqiang Lyu move all in with his ailing short stack and was snap-called by Biasella. Biasella was ahead with 9 9 while Lyu had to connect with his A K. The board ran A 6 Q 7 J for a winning flush to the Italian.
