Not many takers for the early afternoon’s Pot Limit Omaha event especially with the Main Event on its first day. Still, 19 swiveled up for a prize pool of VND 129,010,000. Five hours later, it was down to the bubble round with five remaining. Ryan Revai was able to bring his short stack back into fighting form to deny Pierre Yves Faivre a piece of the pot.

With the money at hand, Revai continued his ascent, knocking out Sean Tan however he lost a significant chunk to Vijaykumar Ramasamy when his top two pair was out-flipped on the turn with a higher two pair. After the fall of Kick-off winner Van Tiep Nguyen in 3rd place, it was heads up between Revai and Ramasamy. Several exchanges led to an ICM deal with VND 5,000,000 set aside and the trophy. Ramasamy went on to win it. All in preflop:

The late afternoon event Deep Stack Turbo 1 was the first fast-action game on offer. It rounded up 45 to the poker green for a prize pool of VND 261,900,000. Russian player Kovantsev Viacheslav claimed his first-ever APT title and VND 82,180,000 (~US$ 3,500).

Buy-in: VND 6,600,000 (~US$ 285)

Picking up the action from the bubble round, the first three hands were claimed by Viacheslav. On the fourth hand, Nguyen Quang Huy denied Viacheslav.  Nguyen’s K Q won the flip against 10 10 with two kings quickly showing up on the flop. The loss of chips didn’t slow down the bulldozing Russian. He proceeded to knock out Dingha Hung on the bubble with K Q partnering up the lady on the turn to dust J J. This formed the final 8 table.  You can watch the final 8 action via our media channels APT Twitch and APT YouTube. We also have a brief recap below.

The final 8 rush to the finish line seemed more like a near victory for the underdogs. Almost every player booted had their better hand turn south. Starting with George Valentin (seat 6), he risked it with A Q however initial shover Lu Zheng Hao (seat 1) got lucky when his Q 10 both pairing up. Crippled, Valentin proceeded to lose the rest of his stack to Hao who once again improved from a lesser hand.

Another lucky player was short stacked Song Daewoong (seat 2) who pushed 5 4 and defeated Nguyen Quang Huy‘s (seat 3) 6 6 when the board ran 7 2 3 A 9 for a beauty straight flush. Lim Hong Wei‘s (seat 8) better K-8 hand failed him against Viacheslav’s Q-4 suited when a queen showed up. He was railed in 7th place. Hao doubled up Daewoong with A 8 losing to K Q king on the flop. Several hands later, Daewoong claimed the rest of Hao’s chips but this time Daewoong did have a better starting hand holding pocket sevens that further improved to a full house against A-8 offsuit.

At five remaining, Ta Duy Quoc Chinh (seat 7) outdrew Nguyen Huu Cao Tri (seat 5) for a double up holding A J flush on a board 5 7 4 5 K to overtake 6 6. This gave Chinh enough ammunition to eliminate Huy leaving four in battle. Then from the small blind, Tri pushed with J 10 but big blind Chinh had A 7 to end Tri’s run.

Three-handed was dominated by Daewoong who picked up numerous pots to lead for the first time. On the flip side, despite the number of busts Chinh delivered, he was grinded down to the shortest stack. He eventually took a stand with A 2 but couldn’t get past Viacheslav’s A 10

Heads up arrived and it took only one hand for Viacheslav to nail it down. The final board was 8 J A Q 3. Daewoong was the aggressor until the river where he checked. Viacheslav shoved with Q 2 flush, Daewoong tank-called for his tournament life with 9 7 lower flush, and it was game over.
