HomePoker action continued at the Resorts World Manila continued in the second day of the APT Philippines 2014 as two were crowned in a pair of side events scheduled on Thursday.
Those who took a crack at being the High Rollers king in this APT stop are Bryan Huang (Singapore), Linh Tran (Vietnam), Victorino Torres (USA), Daniel Laidlaw (Australia), Slade Richard Fisher (New Zealand) and Ryan Yu (Canada) among the high-stakes hopefuls who coughed up the $5,000 buy-in.
In the end, it was Torres who ruled the field and he admitted that it was tough getting the high-stakes title.

“Oh yeah, I just got lucky and I had a rush of cards; it was down to six (players) and then I had that rush and that was it pretty much,” shared Torres when asked if there was a point in the game when his tournament life was at stake.
During the heads-up round, against an APT regular in Tran, Torres had a dominating stack almost 7-to-1 against his nemesis:
“Actually when I had the super-stack I just wanted to control the pot, so every single hand I just wanted to make sure I control the pot and that’s basically it. I did not want to double him up or take risks and when my hand came that’s when I went all in.”
Tran did double-up one time but eventually both players shoved all their stacks to the middle. Torres bet from the small blind, saw an all-in from Tran and made the call.
Torres’ pocket tens was ahead of Tran’s big slick and the flop 10♣ Q♥ Q♣ immediately sealed the deal and gave the title to Torres, who went home with $31,900 for his efforts. Tran settled for $19,100.
Meanwhile, Mike Takayama of the Philippines took down the title in the Mix Game PLH/PLO event with a buy-in of $300.

The Filipino, who went home with $5,190 for the win, beat a field of 69 that included the likes of Euryd Rivera (Philippines), Julian Hasse (Germany), Kai Paulsen (Norway), Kristian Faering (Denmark), Melvyn Judah (United Kingdom), Paul Hockin (New Zealand) and Tetsuya Tsuchikawa (Japan) among others.
The eight-day poker festival is scheduled from April 30 to May 7 with the main event set to start on Saturday.
On Friday, the action on the felt continues with the DafaBet Head Hunter event with a buy-in of $300 and the Ladies of Poker event with a buy-in of $150 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
