USA’s Ryan Ko entered as the shortest of the bunch with just 10 bbs to back him up. However a couple of double ups were enough to get him back in shape and knock out half the field for the win. Ko earned NT$ 116,900 (~US$ 3,800).
Final race recap
Opening the action of the final day, the remaining six were led in by chip leader Jacky Min Tse Lee (seat 5). Lee delivered the bubble at Day 1. He entered with 171,000 which was 34 bbs.
It wasn’t until the blinds climbed to 4k – 8k, average 15 bbs, did the first player drop. Kristof Segers lost an all in to Philip Wang to send his stack plummeting to less than 4 bbs. Both were all in on a flop 4♠ 3♠ 10♥, Wang with 2♥ 4♦ 3♥ 6♦ two pair, Segers 9♠ 8♦ A♣ A♦ overpair. The turn was 8♥ and river K♦. Sam Hung put the final touch on Segers with 6♥ 7♠ 7♣ 8♦ winning over J♣ J♠ Q♥ 9♦ on a board A♠ 8♥ 8♠ 4♦ 7♥.
Action proceeded with Jacky Lee dropping in chips until a run in with Ryan Ko sent him down to 4 bbs. It was all in on a flop 8♣ J♣ 7♥. Lee with 10♦ 10♣ J♠ A♦ and Ko J♥ 7♠ K♠ 2♥ both top pair. The turn 2♦ awarded Ko two pair which held to the river 5♠ for a double up. Lee soon busted at the hands of Wang in 5th place.
Ko delivered his first knock out in Chen Wei-Tsung. All in on a flop 6♣ 6♦ 6♥. Ko Q♦ Q♠ A♠ 3♥, Chen J♣ J♥ 10♦ 9♦. The turn 7♣ and river Q♣ for a commanding trips. From there, Ko took control, denying the two remaining challengers.
Prior to Wang taking 3rd, he lost a large chunk to Ko on a board 2♣ 8♣ K♠ 5♠ 8♠. The shoves were at the flop. Wang 9♦ 9♠ A♣ 3♣ and Ko J♥ K♦ Q♦ Q♥ two pair. Wang went on a rush after, landing a triple up then a double up but he still fell to Ko. Wang pushed all in with 7♠ 8♣ 9♥ K♥ on the turn of a board 5♠ 10♦ 5♥ 8♦ 10♣. Ko had better with A♣ A♥ Q♥ K♥. Entering heads up, Ko was up nearly 8:1 against Hung. Five hands later, the deed was done.
Hung 10♣ 10♠ Q♣ 5♣
Ko 5♦ 2♦ 2♣ K♣
The final board was 2♠ 9♠ 4♦ 9♣ Q♦ for a full house to Ko. This was his first-ever live victory on Asian soil.
