Rattonsey on Top of Record APT Asian Series Goa Day 1B

November 13, 2011 – In a record-breaking day of poker,Sameer Rattonsey moved to the top of the field in APT Asian Series Goa’s INR 50,000 Main Event Day 1B. There were 85 entries on the day giving a combined number of 158 entries into the tournament – the highest number of registrations seen in any Main Event tournament field in India. It generated a total prize pool of INR 7,110,000 with the winner of the event set to receive INR 2,346,400.

Day 1B Chip Leader: Sameer Rattonsey

APT Tournament Director, Lloyd Fontillas, commented, “With a record-sized Main Event field, APT Asian Series Goa has truly shown the potential for poker in India. The previous record was held by a tournament with just 135 entries and a buy-in of only 10 per cent of the one we have here. I’m extremely happy with the turnout today and it justifies APT’s efforts in being the first international poker tour to visit India.”

A number of players returned to the felt after being eliminated on Friday’s Day 1A including Aditya Agarwal, Amit Varma, Cindy Wang, Aditya Shushant, Nam Thien Le and Tom Hall. Both Wang and Le made it through the day with 21,500 and 44,700 in chips respectively but will have some work to do to overtake the average stack of 52,888 in the room when play resumes.

Rattonsey ended the day with 123,500 in chips, putting him in third place overall behind Day 1A’s Rahul Byraju (149,200) and Gao Xiang (133,800). His big stack was accumulated thanks largely to a cooler of a hand for his opponent Richard Hemstra. On a board of 8 2 6 2 Q both players got all their money in with Rattonsey holding 2 2 for quads to have Hemstra’s 8 8 full house completely crushed. The 59,000 pot took Rattonsey into the chip lead and eliminated Hemstra.

With 29 players surviving Day 1B, the field for Day 2 of the Main Event starting at 4pm today will see 50 players sitting down for their shot at poker glory in the lead up to Monday’s Final Table.

Also in today’s schedule is the INR 20,000 Freezeout 4 at 7PM. For the complete Event Schedule, Click Here. View the running Event Results for the APT Asian Series Goa Here
