The APT Asian Poker Series Cebu 2015 got off the ground nicely on Tuesday with two side events— the Ante Up for Charity and NLHE Re-Buys + Add-On events—- kicking off the nine-day poker festivities at the All In Poker Sports Club in Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City, Philippines.
The buy-in for the charity tournament was at PHP 7,500 but a third of which went to a good cause, thanks to the players’ and APT’s commitment to help charitable institutions in every APT stop. In this one, the selected charity is the House Hayag project, an aid association by Hayag International e.V., which aims to help and support impoverished children in Cebu, the second largest city in the Philippines.
In the other side event of the day, the NLHE Re-Buys + Add-On tournament, a prize pool of PHP 672,200 was created after 98 re-buys and 59 add-ons of 74 entries who braved the opening day. Play returns Wednesday for the eight-handed final table and everyone will be aiming for the top prize of PHP 186,200 for the champion. As per the new format for all side events, it now calls for a second day with the average chip stack at 30 big blinds— more poker and room to play for all the survivors.
NLHE Re-Buys + Add-On Side Event Final Eight – Chip Count:
Seat 1: Brian Mason (Philippines) – 35,500
Seat 2: Ethelbert Deguit (Philippines) – 76,500
Seat 3: Ricky Crandell (United States) – 153,000
Seat 4: Tetsuya Tsuchikawa (Japan) – 151,000
Seat 5: Sam Razavi (United Kingdom) – 193,500
Seat 6: Alexis Lim (Philippines) – 48,000
Seat 7: Hideki Takatuji (Japan) – 94,500

With a respectable turnout for the opening day, APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas is optimistic of the overall numbers for the rest of the week, particularly in the main event, which is set to start on Friday (Jan. 30th).
“Cebu is always a favorite stop. I have the overs in the main event, which last year had 299 entries. But even though we don’t beat that number? 100 per cent this event will be a great one and set up the rest of the year for the APT,” confidently declared the long-time tournament director. “2015 is going to be one of our biggest years to come. Now with the APT Poker Room Manila being announced and which will be supporting most of our events expect 2015 to be a memorable year for the APT!”
