Final 8 recap
The first casualty happened in the first half hour with short stacked Zarvan Tumboli eliminated by big stacked Slade Fisher. Tumboli entered the day with just 11 BB, was all in with 8♣ 7♦ mid pair on a flop 2♠ 8♥ J♣, Fisher was ahead with J♦ 9♦, the turn 4♦ and river Q♥ sealed Tumboli’s fate in 8th place. He earned VN₫ 287,310,000 (~US$ 12,250).
It took nearly three hours for the next bust. During that time, Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Chien aka Chien Than saw his stack rise to 28 BB then gradually deplete until a big hand against Kevin Lim sent him down to just 5 BB. On a board that completed 6♥ Q♠ 4♦ 10♦ A♦, Lim K♦ J♦ raised all in, Chien A♣ J♣ tank-folded (hand below). Shortly after, Chien was all in with A♥ 3♦ that missed the board to fall to Dong Van Tan‘s 10♦ 10♣. Chien earned VN₫ 352,630,000 (~US$ 15,030) for 7th place. This was his second cash with a first at the Main Event in 19th place.
Minutes after, Korea’s last hope, Minho Cho, joined the railbirds. Cho started the day with 16 BB, didn’t make any strides and was grinded down to 7 BB at his final showdown. On a turn board 3♠ Q♣ Q♦ 6♣, Cho shoved A♣ 9♣ flush draw but was already drawing dead to Lim’s 3♥ 3♣ full house. The river was 2♠. Cho earned VN₫ 444,070,000 (~US$ 18,930) for 6th place.
The last Vietnamese in the lineup could not secure the title for his home country with Dong Van Tan losing his very healthy 29 BB stack to the leader Fisher. With blinds at 50K-100k, utg Lim K♣ 4♣ raised to 220K, button Tan 2♦ 3♦ and bb Fisher Q♦ 10♦ called. At the flop Q♥ 7♦ A♦, action was checked to Tan who bet 150K, check-called by Fisher. On the turn 9♦, Fisher bet 425K, Tan went deep in the tank then raised to 1.4M. Fisher snap-jammed and once again Tan was back in the tank. He decided to risk it and was drawing dead. Tan earned VN₫ 575,380,000 (~US$ 24,530) for 5th place.
Decorated APT Main Event champion Shardul Parthasarathi attempted to add a second major title to his portfolio. Entering the day with 16 BB, his stack swung, rising to 24 BB down to 10 BB, back up to 21 BB on a double up through Fisher with Q♣ J♣ spiking the queen to best pocket Nines. His next shove ended his race in 4th place with Bothra cleaning him out. From utg, Bothra min-raised and big blind Shardul defended with his 14 BB stack. At the flop 8♥ 7♠ 4♥, Shardul check-jammed with 8♦ 6♦ top pair and Bothra snap-called with Q♠ Q♥ overpair. The turn A♣ and river J♣ completed the board. Shardul was eliminated and collected VN₫ 769,380,000 (~US$ 32,800).
Action slowed at three handed with average at a deep 40 BB. Fisher was ahead at 58 BB, Bothra sitting on 33 BB, and Lim with 28 BB. For the next three hours, chips moved around the felt. Despite Lim and Bothra doubling up, Fisher kept his lead intact. When blinds climbed to 100K-200K, the short stacks got shorter leading to Bothra’s end in 3rd place. Action saw a three way raised pot and a flop land 9♣ 7♠ 4♦, sb Lim checked J♦ 10♦, bb Bothra shoved his 13 BB with 9♦ 8♦ top pair, button Fisher called with 9♠ 7♥ two pair, and Lim folded. The turn J♣ and river A♥ sealed the win for Fisher and Bothra earned VN₫ 1,065,210,000 (~US$ 45,415).
Heads up kicked off with Fisher ahead a massive 63 BB over Lim’s 9 BB. Lim managed to double up twice but was still way behind. The final hand came fairly swift with A♦ K♠ dominating 9♠ 10♥ on a board 8♠ 7♦ 2♦ 3♦ 4♥.
Congratulations to Slade Fisher for his victory! He shipped the VN₫ 2,298,440,000 (~US$ 97,990), the largest first prize payout of the series. For runner up Lim, he also pocketed a substantial payout of VN₫ 1,532,270,000 (~US$ 65,330).
