NGUYEN VAN SANG wins NLH Single Day Event
On Day 5, running alongside Main Event Day 1C was the lone side event offered, the NLH Single Day Event. 56 jumped in to build a prize pool of VN₫ 380,240,000. At the eighth hour of play, APT decorated champion Nguyen Van Sang aka Hoa Thien shipped it defeating Pham Duy Anh aka Chu Anh at heads up. Nguyen is an APT regular who won the inaugural APT Vietnam Hanoi Championships Event last month. For his latest win, Nguyen pocketed VN₫ 112,570,000 (~US$ 4,800).
During the bubble round, Nguyen paid a double up to Tran Duc Son then recovered with a double up holding pocket Jacks against a player’s Ace-Ten suited. Pham delivered the bubble with pocket Aces knocking out a player with top pair. From there, it took another 2.5 hours before the title was claimed. At three-handed Nguyen pushed with A♣ 10♥, Erwan Regnault risked it all with K♥ 9♥, no help arrived for the Frenchman to take 3rd place. It only took one heads up hand to seal the win. At risk Pham all in with K♥ Q♥, Nguyen with 6♦ 6♣, the board ran 8♦ 7♦ J♦ 8♣ 4♣.
