Main Event – Final 8 review
Heres’s a brief review of the final 8 players. All of them are first time APT Main Event finalists.
Vincent Chauve – 3,063,000 – 127 bbs
Strong year for Vincent Chauve at the live tournament scene. In addition to numerous deep runs in the Asian circuit, this past summer he placed 2nd at the WSOP Monster Stack event. At the ongoing Main Event, he consistently bagged up well over average. To amass his enormous stack of 3,063,000, Chauve exposed Huynh Duc Tai’s bluff then later railed Madhav Gupta with a set of ducks over top pair.
Sofia Lovgren – 1,654,000 – 69 bbs
In second rank is Sofia Lovgren with 1,654,000 in chips. Lovgren entered Day 3 as chip leader and maintained her big stack throughout by knocking out a few players very early. She was also the first player to reach a million in chips. Wherever she places here it will be her first-ever APT cash.
Choi Eng Loong – 1,521,000 – 63 bbs
Choi Eng Loong has been cracking heads since Day 2 and bagged up in the top ten. Day 3 was a tougher challenge though with his stack swinging until it finally settled at a solid 1,654,000 to put him in third rank. Loong denied the last Vietnamese remaining, Cao Tung Lam, which in turn beefed up his stack to 1.5M.
Ankit Wadhawan – 1,302,000 – 54 bbs
At Day 3, Ankit Wadhawan knocked out Soo Jo Kim to ensure there would be no player gunning for a second title. Wherever Wadhawan places, it will be his first live cash outside of his homeland India.
Akshay Nasa – 1,284,000 – 53 bbs
Akshay Nasa has already become a familiar face at the APT. In September, Nasa ran deep in two APT Philippines High Rollers events, finishing 2nd at the Single Day 1. Impressively, Nasa came from a very short stack entering Day 2, to bag up second rank at the end of that heat. He delivered the bubble in Day 3, knocking out Nguyen Thi Bao An with pocket kings that held against A-K. He has a healthy 1,284,000.
Nguyen Duc Bien – 1,247,000 – 52 bbs
Nguyen Duc Bien is the reason the final 8 was formed. He eliminated James Chavanarojrit when his A-J met an ace on the board to overcome pocket eights. Nguyen has cashed at an APT Main Event before with a 47th finish back in January. He also cashed at an APT Monster Stack event last year.
Cuong Nguyen – 515,000 – 21 bbs
Last year, Cuong Nguyen cashed in two APT Main Events in Vietnam. He has already surpassed his deepest of 20th place. At the start of Day 3, he shipped a couple of stacks, tapered off halfway through and maintained to enter the final 8 with 515,000.
Jaesh Balachandran – 319,000 – 13 bbs
Jaesh Balachandran brings up the rear with 319,000. Balachandran had a swinging day, coming close to a million in chips after railing David Luong in 26th place. He nearly bubbled to the final 8 getting lucky with his dominated Q-J that improved to a straight. Wherever he places, it will be his first-ever APT cash.
Main Event Day 3 payouts
The Main Event drew a total of 436 entries for a prize pool of VND 8,458,400,000 (~USD 363,700). Returning to the felt for Day 3 were the final 52 players with only 44 guaranteed to cash. Sofia Lovgren entered with the largest stack and proceeded to amass more by knocking out players very early. The bubble eventually burst at the fall of Nguyen Thi Bao An at the hands of Akshay Nasa. Nguyen’s A-K was unable to improve against Nasa’s K♦ K♥.
One of the biggest pots of the day was the elimination of Madhav Gupta in 11th place to Vincent Chauve. Both were sporting well over 1M stacks. Gupta shoved on the turn with top pair and Chauve had him with a set of twos that held to the end. This gave Chauve the enormous chip lead which he closed the day with. Missing the final 8 by one spot was James Chavanarojrit who pushed with pocket eights but fell to Nguyen Duc Bien‘s A-J that paired an ace on the board.
